This is a terrific little gem for writers whether you're just starting out or well seasoned. The prompts are fun, but more important, they offer you a chance to look at a situation from another angle. And Julie Duffy is a wonderful guide.

So much more than 31 writing prompts, this fun collection---packed with personality---gives you short story prompts designed to work with the topics and genres that already interest you. Each prompt comes with tips to jump-start your writing and help you dig deeper into the story. No random collection of writing prompts, these exercises encourage you to work on one aspect of story telling every day: from point-of-view and setting; to research and reworking older stories; to character and dialogue. You'll learn how to start, draft and finish short stories quickly, without losing yourself in the 'muddy middle' of the story. Use the book during a month-long writing challenge, or work through the prompts at a slower pace and keep yourself writing for a year or more! Featuring: All-new writing prompts for 2015! About StoryADay.org Writing a story a day for a month is a crazy endeavour, but one that hundreds of writers have signed up for every May since 2010. During month of courageous creativity, writers learn how to write every day (not 'someday'), how to craft a story, how to write in different forms, how to fail and dust themselves off, and write again. Verified PurchaseThis is a wonderful book of prompts accompanying the Story a Day challenge that begins on 1st May. I undertook the challenge for the first time last year and was amazed at the creativity it inspired in me. The pressure to write every day forces you to think about characters and situations and soon a story has emerged. The prompts are great and varied, some short (100 words or a tweet) while others look for something longer, which can be a real challenge. At the end of the month you have a stock of stories that can be worked on further and polished. From the stories I wrote last year I've used a number and entered them in competitions. A magnificent tool for anyone looking to further their writing career.
