4.0 out of 5 stars Super quick

My biggest issue is that it was a little too quick for me to really give it 5 stars, there just wasn't enough build up.

    This is set in space.
2 bros go on a camping trip on a planet that has recently had a relatively secret viral outbreak.
The only way they can hold out for help is to become much closer than they ever have been.

Super quick, essentially one scene with a little before and after to set up the story and the HEA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes a good story where everything just goes RIGHT for a change is exactly what the doctor ordered
Reviewed in the United States on 31 May 2015

If you're wondering, this story is not "if the pain gets worse you can get this prescription filled", this story is a mandatory life-saving medication that the doctor makes you swallow a sample dose of before you're even allowed to leave his office. It hit me right in the heart in the very best of ways! It could have been stretched out into an angsty novel full of a gay friend pining for a straight one, like so many books on the market, but instead it's a dose of natural love that makes your chest light. (There's a tiny bit of angst, just enough to give you that good chest-hurt that is the reason we all enjoy angst-with-happy-endings. It's the perfect amount for the characters.)

Ramses and Hader are the best of bros and I absolutely love the way Yamila wrote them - so comfortable with each other and so trusting. Ramses is a straight hunk but that doesn't make him the least bit awkward around Hader, even though he knows his friend has long had a thing for him. They tease each other and hang out and always fall back on each other when they need a shoulder to lean on. So when they head off on this camping trip and end up taking their relationship from platonic into romantic, even while overcoming Ramses' orientation it is the most natural, flowing romantic development I think I've ever had the pleasure of reading. The virus may have made for some super-heated smut (pun very intended), but in reality the boys, Ramses especially, make conscious use of it as a shortcut for where they've been heading with their relationship for years.

On top of that it's well-written: where most romance crossover authors make the mistake of loading down their story with too much and often too-complicated world-building detail that generates its own inconsistencies, the space future sci-fi this story is set in is believable, easy, and immersive, lending to the characters while not pulling away from what is foremost a love story. Also, if you're thinking "mind-control rapist-sex-drone-creating virus trope", not at all, in this case. Instead of just being a tropey excuse for anal, the viral infection is actually as biologically well-explained as a made-up virus can get (again, without loading down the story in a detractive fashion). I would settle for an easy-excuse virus for a quick fun erotic novel, so the obvious research that went into it instead made me smile.

Oh, and the little twist at the end had me laughing, but I won't spoil it!

Good but too short. Nice to see love be given back in this story of friends turn lovers. Crazy circumstances surround their beginning, but it affords them both the opportunity to confess and explore their feelings for each other.

Hot, short and sweet. Gay man and his straight best friend go camping and through a crazy set of circumstances end up discovering if they can have more than friendship. Another fun read by Yamila Abraham.
