5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series

Let me start by saying this is the first Alex Cave book I've read and now I definitely have to read the rest of this amazing series. Thank you Mr. Corkill you hooked me!!
Alex Cave is an adventure junkie even though he's a college geology professor. He's ex CIA and still does occasional work for his friend the Director of National Security.
When he's called to Iceland to investigate an anomaly he's excited to go see whats going on. He brings his best friend and ex CIA partner Okana along for the ride. What they find puts the whole planet in danger.
There's intrigue, danger, action and Sci-Fi in this fast paced page turner that I just couldn't put down. Alex reminds me of a mix of Indian Jones and McGuiver with a dash of James Bond.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Incredible Sci-Fi Adventure from a Great New Author

Another great sic-fi adventure book from James Corkill. This time, his main character, Alex Cave, is presented with another anomaly that draws him into intrigue in Iceland that quickly folds into a danger to the entire planet. True to Alex' nature, he can't resist being a modern age combination of MacGyver and Indiana Jones, with just a bit of James Bond thrown in for good measure. As with his Energy series, Corkill keeps the pace going and the surprises coming, making you wonder if anybody on Earth is going to live through this one. I completely enjoyed this book; it never left me hanging, but drug me along an adrenalin-pumping ride around the planet and into space. I almost needed a vacation by the time I was finished! Two enthusiastic thumbs up for still another great novel from this author!

3.0 out of 5 stars Indiana Jones meets Armaggedon...sorta.

I have not read any of the previous books in this series, but Mr. Corkill provided enough backstory that I didn’t feel as if I was missing important details. I admire an author who can introduce new readers mid-series without committing exposition overkill.

With that being said, “Gravity” was fairly mediocre. It seemed to rip off the story of “Armageddon” (group of unlikely heroes must save the world from a killer asteroid), but without the emotional punch and heart-wrenching consequences. In fact, “Gravity” wrapped up in a nice, neat, too-good-to-be true burst of serendipity. Don’t get me wrong, I love a happy ending, but this was just silly and it robbed the rest of the preceding events of their impact.
Perhaps I would have felt differently if the characters and writing had been more developed. Mr. Corkill penned a novel full of one-dimensional people with stiff, unnatural dialogue and exaggerated interactions. I was never able to form a connection with them and they were always being saved by this chance or that, it seemed. The writing style was bland and there were a number of little things that bothered me; helicopters don’t have jet engines, capitalization of proper nouns was inconsistent (Buford glacier should be Buford Glacier), “Gravity” lacked emotional energy, so even events that should have been huge had zero impact.

Bottom line: Meh. I have no strong feelings one way or the other about “Gravity”.

Hold on to your hats! James M. Corkill’s novel, Gravity, book 4 in the Alex Cave Series, will keep you breathlessly turning pages as protagonist Alex Cave, a geophysicist, and his best friend, Okana investigate an unusual geological study reported to Alex by the Director of the Nordic Volcanological Center. In Iceland, at the end of one of the volcanoes’ ancient lava tubes, Alex and Okana discover an alien device that can make havoc with gravity.

Back at home in Montana, Alex, whose day job is a college professor, has a very annoyed live in girlfriend, Fala, who has had it with Alex’s mysterious disappearances. It seems that Alex works on the side as a secret agent for the CIA and other covert government agencies, which Fala knows little to nothing about.

On this new mission the world is literally dependent on Alex and Okana’s success or else Armageddon will be upon us.

With an easy-to-read writing style in the third person narrative, James M. Corkill’s newest edition to The Alex Cave Series won’t disappoint fans. And don’t worry about missing the other three books in the series. This novel stands alone very nicely without having knowledge of the back-story of the previous books.
