4.0 out of 5 stars A compilation of old articles with lots of math!
Verified PurchaseThe principles outlined in the first three quarters of the book are very solid and hold up to the test of time. They alone make this a worthwhile investment. Be advised though if you are math deficient as I am, the last quarter or so of the book is a slog of formulas, percentages, and probabilities. You have been warned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality book don't be put off
Verified PurchaseNearly didn't buy this book because of other negative reviews about it being dated. There are a few plays in there that are but the book highlights this and also tells you the modern bot approach with theory. This makes it even more interesting to see the difference in past and present analysis and how the game has changed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good results
Verified PurchaseI had already read four or five books about backgammon, and I was playing frequently on the Internet when I started reading this book, so I hadn't great expectations because I thought there was nothing new to learn. However, I found very good tips that helped me improving, even reaching occasionally the top of the ranking in my favourite site!!!
The writing style is really amusing, every section is clear and concise, and at the same time the book covers all kind of situations that come up in real games, giving good criteria to select the best moves.
