“You may not be aware, ma douce, but not all vampyre have a kindred, some will live out their existence without such beauty in their lives. I have waited five hundred years for you." Vampires, shape shifters, ghouls and magic users abound in a world where the Norms, (those humans without paranormal abilities) are ignorant of the creatures of the night and the supernatural species that live alongside them.Lucinda Monk is a bank teller by day and a vampire hunter by night, but she wasn’t always a part of this world. Thrown into a heady mix of powerful people and sensual beings, she’s had to find her way practically blindfolded in amongst the creatures of the night. But she’s a capable and realistic kind of girl. Her motto: never show fear. But, there's something different about Lucinda, something those creatures she hunts, want. In order to stay one step ahead of the enemy, she has to let the enemy in. In all his compelling, seductive and delicious ways. Sleeping with the enemy has never meant so much before. But, can she trust him? From the urban streets of the city to the dark alleys and sinful bars that promise a wickedness a girl from the farm has never before been exposed to, Lucinda gets drawn irreversibly into the dark side of life. And if the Master of the City had his way, she would always be his. For eternity.

Product description

About the Author

Nicola Claire lives in beautiful Taupo, New Zealand with her husband and two young boys. She's tried her hand at being a paramedic, bank teller and medical sales representative, (not all necessarily in that order), but her love of writing keeps calling her back. She has a passion for all things supernatural, spiced up with a good dollop of romance - as long as they include strong characters, alpha males and capable females, and worlds which although make-believe are really quite believable in the end. There's nothing better than getting caught up in a compelling, intriguing and romantic book. When she's not writing or reading, she's out on her family boat at Lake Taupo, teaching her young boys to fish, showing them the beauty that surrounds them in nature and catching some delicious trout for dinner. Kindred has been a joy to write, creating a rich world with dynamic characters and paranormal twists that shock and awe has been pure bliss for this author. And just as well, because there's a lot more story yet to tell... A staunch supporter of the eBook phenomenon and Indie Authors worldwide, you can find her books at Amazon stores on-line.

Really enjoyed reading this book. Love the two main characters Michel and Lucinda. A stand out character in the book for me is Nero. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Definitely worth a read. Loved how refreshing it was being based in New Zealand.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I don`t believe I have ever read a vampire novel set in New Zeland. I loved that her vampire lore was classic. That is they turned to dust when staked. She did add a new and interesting twist. Characters were well developed and lovable. I will definitely buy the next book un the series.

For start I thought I was reading a Buffy story and nearly stopped reading. But was surprised that is not the case.
So much going in on in this book great characters and development within the storyline strong plot with good graphic descriptions.
Luce is a vampire hunter very stubborn and sassy with lots personality. Michel is a vampire master and has a different agenda. He want a joining with Lucinda, to stay alive. He need her and will try everything and anything to get her. But he has not thought that the pull he got is this strong, the same is for Lucinda she also feel a strong pull forward Michael and so the story takes its start.
Strong emotional storyline with a great plot but I will not tell, you need to read this book! If you a fan of vampires and shifters with a good portion of sex, than it is a book you should read!!
Looking forward for the next book!
Oh something I am wondering, Michel speaks sometimes in French like: Ma petite belle lumière. Ma belle fille. Tu es parfaits, si parfaits.
I hope this will not comes to a big surprise or maybe it's nothing, but it's say something like my beautiful daughter in law? Well anyway I look forward to a catch up!!

Lucinda moved from a farm with her Aunt and Uncle to Auckland, New Zealand and everything changed. She discovered that not only do vampires exist, but that she can sense them. She has become a vampire hunter, killing off those who feed on innocents rather than the willing. There has been an increase in the number of rogue vampires in her city recently and Michel, the master vampire, seems to know something not only about it, but about what she truly is. But is she ready for that truth?

With the revelation comes a choice that she must make within a month after her 25th birthday or face the consequences. But, when another Level One vampire kidnaps her from work in broad daylight trying to force her to join with him the devil she knows quickly becomes the better option. Especially since the attraction that she has always felt for Michel has become a constant thing and her feelings have become more impossible to deny. Hopefully the power that he will gain in their joining will not change the parts of him that she cares for...will it?

This is a book that I got back in 2016 as a suggested deal of the day with BookBub and it has just sat on my TBR till now. That being said I am so glad that I read this book as it is really cute and I found myself calling my newborn daughter "ma petite belle". No, this exact sentiment is not in this book, but it is easy enough to piece together. Now, I will let you know that this is not a book that has the translations for foreign languages after they are used. I used the translate function in my Kindle app for a couple and then my own knowledge for some of the others. Thankfully, most of the words used in French are easily understood in English, like the sentiment above. Douce is one I had to look up though. It means sweet, which is pretty cute.

Now, as I mentioned I enjoyed this book. It was a fun, fast read that has a lot of action and mixed feelings in it. The male pursues the female and has a valid argument, but his possessiveness seems rather one sided. I don't mean that she doesn't get jealous. Rather at multiple points he has another female draped over him or calling him pet names and if anyone so much as looks at Luce Michel has his panties in a wad. I suppose it is what it is, though. I can tell you one thing that is not something that would ever fly with me.

I do want to give you a bit of a warning if you are an American reader. It was something that threw me for a moment when I first started reading this. This is not an American author. I am not sure where the author is from but the book is set in New Zealand. That itself if interesting, but some of the verbiages are vastly different between here and there. I expected that, but not for some words. They use "septic" instead of "skeptic". I thought it was a typo at first, but it isn't. You learn something new every day.

All in all this is a great book and I hope you take the time to enjoy it like I did.

I liked the characters and how they developed. I expected different phrases and had no problem understanding their meaning. The story line was well paced and I look forward to reading more.

This book was recommended by a friend, I'd had it on my kindle for years but the cover kept putting me off. I'd never even got as far as checking the reviews I just couldn't get past the cover but now it had been recommended I checked the reviews and started reading and now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long.
I wasn't sure at first that I was actually going to like Lucinda, in my case she took a bit of getting used to. Michel however I just loved, there's just something about a hot sexy vampire and in this case there's the French accent thrown it as well, irresistible.
This is a different vampire book and there's so much here, in fact it actually felt like two books and could easily have been.
Lucinda is a vampire hunter, it's something she felt compelled to do and when she started she was just going with her gut but now she's trained and ready and busy, in fact she's never been so busy something is changing and Lucinda seems to be right in the middle of it.
Where would a vampire romance be without a hot handsome vampire, Michel is the 500 year old eligible bachelor who seems very interested in Lucinda, but then he's not alone.
Throw in some shifters, more vampires and some Nosferatin and you're in for an entertaining read.
