Thanks to Going Under I have learned some very colourful new vocabulary, thank you Payton. I found myself laughing at every new word. I loved Going Under. The characters were funny and lovable. I loved the tension between Jessie and Claire. They sure heated my Kindle up. I thought it was going to burst into flames. It was a definite love hate relationship. This was a romance about two people who have stereotyped each other. I enjoyed watching Claire and Jessie learn to let go of their inhibitions and find out that there was more to each other than they thought. Though it starts out with them trying to use/get even with each other it quickly becomes something more, much more.
Claire is the girl who has everything. She's got money, a flashy car and the hot boyfriend. Lets be honest, Claire is the girl we all love to hate. But I don't hate Claire. There is more to her than what meets the eye. Sure she is a princess in her own way, but not in the ways that make her unlikeable. I think Jessie opened Claire's eyes about her life. Made her see more to it than what she thought it was. Her and Jessie are a perfect match. Claire is confident and sure of herself. She doesn't take crap and she sure doesn't follow the band wagon. She does what she believes is right not what everyone else is doing. It takes a lot to be able to be yourself and not try to be like everybody else. Claire you rock!
Jessie is a guy who doesn't give himself enough credit. He is always putting himself down and thinking he is not good enough for Claire. Because of this he makes problems where there never should of been any. I loved Jessie, he shows that not all hot boys are arrogant jerks. He feels insecure and doesn't want to be rejected. I feel for Jessie, especially with all the stuff going on with Rita. If I could of joined the book and took him away I would of. My God, what a life he is living. I was happy to see him grow and finally see his worth, that he is more than he believed himself to be. One word for Jessie. Keeper. Jessie had me swooning more than once. He is the boy you bring home to meet mom and dad and have your HEA with.
Ms. Cates writes a story where, I felt, the female/male MC's rolls were reversed. Usually the girl is insecure and the boy is all confidence. I loved seeing the opposite. Watching Claire and Jessie try not to fall for each other was down right funny, esply with Payton playing on the sidelines. Payton <3 In all honestly I don't think there could be a couple more meant to be together. Absolutely perfect! If your looking for a funny, tension filled romance, Going Under is it. Grab a copy now.

Going Under: A High School Enemies to Lover Romance (A Going Under Novel Book 1) Kindle Edition
Jesse Boone is a self-proclaimed bad boy and doesn’t march to the beat of anyone’s drum but his own. Growing up in less than desirable circumstances has made him no stranger to the hard knock life but his determination to leave it behind is fervent. He sees an opportunity to snag a college football scholarship when he’s transferred to East Franklin High School but Forbes Henderson has other plans. The player Jesse intends to replace doesn’t plan on giving up his spot as starting quarterback so a rivalry is born. Jesse is determined to show his nemesis that he’s not only going to take his position as first string quarterback, he’s going to take his girl, too.
Claire Deveraux is perfection at its best. She’s beautiful, intelligent, and unaware she just became Jesse Boone’s conquest to settle a score with her boyfriend. Like her flawless performance as the perfect daughter and student, Claire’s production of being the perfect girlfriend has everyone fooled, except Jesse Boone. She fears this tattooed bad boy will see her secret desire to explore his crude threats and promises of rocking her perfect world. If she decides to give in to one uninhibited moment with Jesse, will she learn too late that it was all an act of vengeance or will Jesse learn that the taste of first love is sweeter than that of revenge?
Going Under is Book 1 of 2 in the Going Under Series but may be read as a stand alone.

Opposites Attract!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 August 2012Verified Purchase
This Book reminds me of the perfect chemistry series by Simone Elkeles because of the whole 'opposites attract' thing. Jesse is the typical gorgeous but poor bad boy type of guy, he has a cr*p family life, involved in drugs, no money & having to attend a new school with pupils which are exactly the opposite of him.
Then theirs Claire, she's rich, beautiful, and a good girl. They both can't help but be attracted to one another. They both soon find out that there's more to both of them, they are not the typical stereotypes of what they believe each other to be. & although at first they were both trying to use each other as just a game it soon ends up into something much deeper.
I love Jesse, he is a good guy at heart, and you feel for him because of all the cr*p he's had to go through. & Claire you can imagine how shes feeling putting yourself in her shoes, & getting all the butterflies when your around the boy you like but not really supposed to be!
The drama in the book is great I was cringing when Jesse meets Claires mum & the drama unfolds! I really enjoyed this book, there was enough drama to keep me occupied & lots of romantic encounters to keep me all bubbled up. One of my fave parts are when Jesse sleeps over! & Also when Claire meets Jesse's brothers, its very heart-warming knowing how much Jesse cares for them.
The epilogue is beautiful, I think they deserved the fairytale they got!

Nicht mit Chasing Nikki zu vergleichen-trotzdem ein schönes Buch-3.5 Sterne!
Reviewed in Germany on 19 May 2012Verified Purchase

"When you look back on this moment months from now, don't forget the one word I'm about to say to you, Claire Deveraux. Foreplay."
Recap
Jessie Boone isn't your average popular East Franklin high student. Jessie comes from a different side of town and has a different way of living. When he finally has the chance to get a football scholarship to a good school he is prepared to fight for it. But East Franklin already has a starting quarterback and he isn't someone to mess with. When Forbes Henderson shows Jessie just how out of place he is Jessie extract revenge by trying to steal the one thing Forbes has and won't let go, Claire Deveraux. But Claire isn't like the rest of East Franklin's girl. Jessie quickly learns that what starts off revenge turns into something very unexpected.
Claire Deveraux has the perfect life. Great parent, excellent GPA, great friends, a cheerleading and a start quarter back as a boyfriend. But Claire Deveraux isn't your typical popular girl. Claire hates hiding her true nature to please others. And when Jessie's Boone decides to rattle her cage Claire will learn just how sick she is of hiding. Falling for a boy from Collinsville was not the plan.
Will these two finally be able to see that revenge isn't always sweet? Will Claire be able to stick next to Jessie after learning his secrets? Or will what they have fall apart?
My Take
I have to say that I loved the premise of this story. I liked the characters and loved all of the humor, angst, and love in this book. While reading I had one statement in my head the whole time: "What you see on the outside is different then what's on the inside."
Jessie is one of those badass guys that have the heart and soul of an angel or at least almost like an angel. You quickly understand why he is the way he is and feel for all the crap he has had to put up with. Jessie has his own issues going on but he has a plan, has focus, is incredibly smart and will do anything for the ones he loves. During the book I found myself hoping that his dreams would come true because he deserved it. He was given a shitty hand in life and deserved good. And that good came in the form of Claire.
Claire didn't put with Jessie's crap and played her own game. She wasn't a weak protag which quickly got her on me list. She rattled Jessie's cage just as much as he rattled hers. The "foreplay" between the two was just hilarious and oh so wonderful. I liked her spunk and I liked her fire. I liked that she took a chance on someone different then she was use to and that she stood by him through the good and the bad.
These two together made for some funny moments as well as lots of loving and heartbreaking ones. You can't get more realistic then this and the way the author portrayed there story was excellent.
Claire and Jessie made this book good but one person made this book great to read. Claire's best friend Payton totally made this book much more enjoyable! I totally adored her from her first sentence and from there on out I was looking forward to her moments. When the author mentioned her story was the sequel I was delighted! Payton is the best friend every girl out here should have. She is real, raw and realistic. I cannot wait to get started on Shallow.
The only reason this is getting 4 stars is because at I think it jumped to insta-love pretty quickly. I wanted more of the bickering and sarcasm before they both got on the "love train". I felt like Jessie turned into muss really quick.
I would recommend this book and look forward to continuing on with Payton's story.

Short changed! But really enjoyed it,
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 March 2013Verified Purchase
Another easy e read, really enjoyed the story but it felt a little rushed and a little overly innocent, I know this is for YA but come on we are talking 17/18 yr old teens, lets keep it some where near reality .....
I don't want to give any thing away but I didn't like the ending, I was mid read and BAM it's over with every thing wrapped up in the last chapter :-) (I feel at least one vital chapter/scene was missed out )
Overall 4 stars , very enjoyable but could have been a 5 star with a little more detail/intensity
Xx
