What I gained from this book is the ability to follow the lurid games and fantasises as one of the future rich.
It is dark and gritty and unashamedly 'real'. This is often a tough feat for a SCI-FI book due to the fantastical subject matter, however this book brings you back to earth and rubs your face in it.
For me this makes a more relatable future - rather than the polished utopia usually proffered up for digestion. This also means you won't find yourself choking on any science fallacies that you often forced to 'eat'.
This realness also translates to characters of Ruth, Pearce, Milla and Franklyn. Believable normal people Swept up in the promise of the perfect dream holiday only to become playthings of the rich and powerful always pushing for themselves, and by proxy you the reader, to be entertained.
It touches on both the subjects of body swapping, and all the ramifications that entails, along with the fact that youth can only really be appreciated by the old. Both subjects I find fascinating.
One of the greatest achievements of this book is to entertain and excite you, all the while luring you into a false sense of comfort.
Then it pulls you from your seat and slams you into a non stop adventure while never taking it's foot off the accelerator, or letting up on the aphrodisiacs.
The bad guys in this book are sadistically bad, where only profit matters and human life costs nothing. What results in some of the most epic scenes of callous, cold hearted destruction and death that I have ever read - making them some of the most memorable.
Finally I think it is a crime that the highest ranking this book gets is in humorous erotica.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be reading the sequel.

Body Holiday - Shadow Players: The Adventures of Milla Carter Kindle Edition

TV Presenter JULIETTE FOSTER: "Pearson possesses an extraordinary imagination that brilliantly assaults every variant of the sci-fi genre. His writing is vivid, urban and unflinching in its descriptions, taking the reader through Saturn's rings, outer-world "constructs" and altered perceptions.
This is hard hitting storytelling with full-on language and a brutally splendid plot twist, which, if you make it to the end, will leave you crossing your legs! "
Revenge needs no salt to taste this good!
The sexy all-action heroine Milla Carter's breathtaking journey extends through outer-world "constructs", now visiting an African landscape smouldering with sexual heat and the odour of violence.
In this sequel to Body Holiday, Milla's war against the sinister Body Holiday Foundation and its twisted founder is more than just personal. She's out to destroy them both and, quite frankly, who can blame her? This outfit makes big bucks from normalising some of the most depraved forms of human behaviour. Nothing is off-limits where these creeps are concerned and they deserve every bit of what's coming.

Review
"This dystopian series, with people swapping bodies, will challenge your preconceptions, shock you, scare you and when you reach the final page, you will want to start it all again." --THE BOAR. -- "Imaginative and sexually explicit. Yet its edgy, 'in your face' writing and tightly structured plot are so addictive that it’s damn near impossible to put down." --SURREY LIFE
About the Author
Foreword Indies BOOK AWARD Finalist: 2018 GODS' Warrior (Fantasy) 2017 GODS' Fool (Fantasy) 2016 GODS' Enemy (Fantasy) 2016 Star Weaver (Science Fiction) Derek E Pearson is a UK-based author and illustrator with more than a dozen published novels in the sci-fi and fantasy genres. Since gaining his bachelor's degree from Norwich School of Art in the late 1970s, Pearson has mainly worked as a children's book illustrator, including titles such as Tulsi the Tiger. Since the late 1980s, Pearson has also worked in publishing and journalism, specialising in the dental industry with his online magazine Dental Review. Celluloid Peach, Pearson's latest novel, is a grand, romantic and adventuresome departure from his usual writings, but brings with it the dark twist familiar to fans of fantasy and sci-fi. Pearson says, "When someone dies it has to matter. You have to believe a life has been lost. An author learns to love the people he lives with in his mind. They become real."

5.0 out of 5 stars Original and enjoyable sci-fi! A terrific read.
Verified PurchaseFantastic premise and such an intriguing story! The writing is just terrific. Pacy but descriptive, explicit and enticing, sophisticated but easy to follow. Such engaging sci-fi writing with an original concept and exhilarating execution. The characters are fleshed out nicely and are interesting, quirky and compelling. Hard to find good science fiction these days which can make grand themes and ideas accessible and enjoyable at the same time.
Really enjoyed reading this and would definitely recommend it! :)
