I have to say I was in love with Kristen as soon as I started to read Protecting Katie. She is such a real character that you believe in her the entire time. You want her to have her happily ever after but you understand why she is afraid of it. You completely understand why she does what she does in the book, and you want to cry with her and be happy for her, kind-of like your best friend. She is torn between believing what her head is telling her and what her heart is telling her.
Morgan, well he acts like an ass and you want to hate him, but then you realize why he is the way he is. If you are a parent, you understand why he needs to protect Katie, why he would fight till the end for her, I mean she is a 8 year old little girl, who wouldn't fight for her. Then Kristen changes his plans and he is unsure what to do. Then there is Jeff, he is all business. You understand quickly what is truly important to him, and who is just a pawn in his sad game.
All of these characters are written with such depth that you want to love them or hate them, and the story is believable, it is so real and yet so perfect too.
This is the first book I have read by H. D Thomson, but it will not be the last!!

I really liked the book. From the first chapter I was already intrigued by the plot. Morgan is trying to protect his little girl and hide a secret as well. Kristen happens to step into the picture with what she thinks is the perfect man to marry. Well lets just say.....he has some major skeletons in his closet. I thought the story itself was wonderful and you were able to develop feeling for each of the characters (not all good feelings). The only reason I could not give it five stars was the editing was terrible. Example- if it should've said "he reached for something".....it would say "her eached for something". I had to go back several times to make sure I read it correctly :)
But overall this book was wonderful! Must read it :)

Katie is engaged to jeff , an absolute cad. Morgan hates Jeff and is looking for ways to discredit him. At times Katie comes across as so naive and stupid as Jeff is concerned. She frustrated me and at times I questioned how Morgan could find her so attractive.

This is a great book and just as good as The Long Road Home when it
comes to character development. I love how the author is able to get me
invested in the characters and right inside their heads. I also loved
the relationship between Morgan and Katie. There were some nice twists
that I wasn't expecting and I don't want to go into detail because it
will give too much away, but this was truly a great story and a fast read!
