    'Modification' tells the story of beleaguered detective as he tries to make sense of a grisly and bizarre series of murders in a community who don't want his help, over the course of three mind (and body)-bending days. It's full of completely unpredictable twists and turns and set an immersive fictional universe peopled by vivid characters with their own argot. Where else but a Jonathan M Chandler novel will you find a made-up blood sport with dozens of competitors, themes of constipation and a company called Morgellon Mortgages? NOWHERE!
