Artificially Intelligent: Painful Poetry, Silly Diatribes, and Other Stuff (Audience Askew Chapbooks, Year 1) Kindle Edition

At the moment of madness,
resign–cower like a child of
divorce to the tattered,
unrelenting majesty of
derealization.

Recovery is optional:
Betterhelp or SSRIs,
yoga or huffing of essential oils;
this can be reversed–if you would like.

Denial works for some, others
acknowledge but ignore; most don’t
realize until it’s too late.

As you can see, Michael David likes attention. Currently, he achieves this by writing silly little poems and exposing his belly for a cheap laugh. While claiming to be the king of Audience Askew, his book sales tell a different, more depressing story. Michael lives in Grand Rapids, MI, with his partner and two cats—Meeko and Grandpa Louie.

Artificially Intelligent is a book of poetry that explores the relationship between humans and technology. The poems are written in a variety of styles and offer a range of perspectives on this topic. Some of the poems are light-hearted and explore the ways that technology can make our lives easier, while others are more serious and explore the ways that technology can threaten our privacy and safety. Overall, this is a thought-provoking collection of poetry that will leave readers contemplating the role of technology in our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why take to twitter to offend when you can get a publishing deal? (In all the best ways)

Artificially Intelligent is for those that have made grossly inappropriate comments and jokes to an audience on which the response is awkward silence and maybe an individual walking away. Artificially Intelligent is a physical representation of accidentally offending a prude at a party by making an offhand (yet very clever) comment. “Know your audience.” My dad would tell me. If that’s you, you’re the audience for this book. Must buy.

Amazing first work. Do yourself a favor and gift self-gift it to you. You're worth it, probably. This thing is pretty great. Please live up to this book, you piece of garbage. Sorry - I don't know what came over me, be the truth remains: this is brilliant and you should get it. Recommend eating zebra cakes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Product of the Times - Our culture analyzed through the lens of AI

The entire book feels like one of those memes about “ai writes script for (blank) brand commercial”. Full of vulgarity, d*ck jokes (call me immature I found them funny, one of my favorite poems being “dear mom” and sprinkling of social themes. I think the collection would’ve benefited from being a little bit longer, but that’s a personal preference, and I understand with it being Michael’s first chapbook why he wanted to keep it short. As someone who uses humor as a coping mechanism I personally enjoyed the light-hearted approach to the poems, they didn’t feel too heavy. Don’t get me wrong they’re important discussions to have and sometimes we need to look at things as things more seriously, but I though the humor was a nice balance and it fit well with the theme of AI not always capturing the context of certain situations. Also humor isn’t something often associated with poetry and I think it refreshing to see poetry in a more light-hearted tone. Also I love the ai pictures associated with each poem, I thought that a genius touch.

For someone who is not big into poetry I found the short poems to be well written and enjoyable. The poems made me think but also smile at the same time. I highly recommend giving this book a read through.
