5.0 out of 5 stars I'm recommending this to DoDEA teachers who truly deserve the best!
Verified PurchaseI love how Sybil structured her content into seasons. It's such a practical approach to the school year. The topics are easy to read, not too long, and it's clear she thinks about how busy teachers are and may need to 'touch and go' with this book. What I truly loved was the 'Invitations' sections. It doesn't feel like you're forced to do anything you didn't want. I recommend gifting this book to any DoDEA military base school teachers you know because they truly deserve to Burn Bright, Not Out!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Educators!
Verified PurchaseThis book is a must-read for educators who are feeling the weight of burnout and need a reminder of why they started teaching in the first place. Sybil’s lessons are practical, thoughtful, and filled with wisdom that feels like it’s coming from a trusted friend who truly understands the challenges of the profession.
What I love most about this book is how it balances honesty about the realities of teaching with actionable steps to prioritize well-being. Each lesson is bite-sized yet impactful, making it easy to reflect and apply her advice even during a busy school week.
This book is more than a guide—it’s a companion for teachers who want to reignite their passion for education without losing themselves in the process. Sybil has created a resource that empowers teachers to take care of themselves so they can continue to inspire their students.
Highly recommend this to any teacher looking for balance, renewal, or just a little encouragement.

5.0 out of 5 stars An honest, genuine book
Verified PurchaseI desperately needed advice on organizing, planning, and finding a balance between the tasks I force on myself and the need to unwind regularly. And all simultaneously, I want to be more productive through my grueling, long days, right? I knew by reading the description of Sybill Hall's book, I would find some solutions to my dilemma. And I was right. I understood that efficiency is not a synonym of hard work only; it includes taking care of yourself and having wise consistency in planning. With her experience as a coach, teacher, and mother/wife, we have guaranteed firsthand knowledge here. It's not a book where you'll get precise details on how to plan or become more efficient, etc. Instead, it's a guide to becoming more self-aware of what it needs to preserve your well-being while knowing what you want to do first and being more efficient. And you'll have practice reminders after each chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mentor in Your Pocket
Verified PurchaseGreat for new teachers and season teachers alike. Definitely would have a greater impact when you are newly into the field, as you can learn from the life lessons from a pro.
The author has taught for many years and on a global level, so has a good understanding of how to maintain your teaching stamina throughout your career.
I am not a teacher, but I am a school psychologist and really enjoyed the focus on self-care as both of our disciplines are prone to burn out. We don’t need to subscribe to the old narrative of all work and no play just because we care about our students!
While Burn Bright, Not Out (GREAT title btw) is a short read. I don’t recommend reading it all at once. In fact, I think it should intentionally be spread out. Maybe one Chapter per day or one per week or as part of a small group. I think it would have more impact if you slow down the lessons and spend time in applying to your life.
If you’re one of those people that absolutely does not have time to read, this book would still suit you just fine. The chapters and lessons are small enough that it only takes a few minutes. Then you can decide how much or a little to apply it to your life.
I definitely think this is a good exercise for seasoned teachers and a good gift for a new teacher. It’s like having a built-in mentor to learn from the authors experiences.
