4.2 out of 5 stars 38 ratings

Amazon.com #1 Best Seller in Comics, Manga & Graphic Novels (Free eBooks)

"Urlan, Cosmic Cat" is a ground-breaking exploration of AI-human collaboration in graphic storytelling.
Written, edited, lettered by Daniele Bonfanti and Valentina Kay, the art has been fully realized with OpenAI's Dall-E 3
through the ChatGPT Pro interface.
A short but complete space adventure in gorgeous black&white (plus yellow) which weaves the emerging technology's strengths and weaknesses into narrative solutions.
Delve into the “making of” section for a step-by-step look at the creative process, including useful tips and funny behind the scenes. Also featuring an exclusive interview with the AI artist itself, none other than ChatGPT!

At the fringes of the dreaded Triangle, a sector notorious for vanishing spaceships, the legendary temple ship Magnificat reemerges after a century.
Enter Urlan—a daredevil, gun-for-hire cat armed to the fangs with a reconfigurable assault rifle and donning a twitchy holo-adaptive suit stuck on leather jacket mode.
He's set to plunge headfirst into this cosmic enigma.

It's a short graphics novel with a LOT of gaps in the story. For me the most interesting part is their journey with the AI in creating this piece.
I look forward to better works to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars A successfull experiment

"Urlan, Cosmic cat, published by Bee Lab, is an experiment that combines storytelling by Daniele Bonfanti and Valentina Kay with illustrations generated by the open AI Dall-E. The result is nothing short of extraordinary. The story is short but compelling, and the characters well characterised; the artificial intelligence-generated images, in a black and white sometimes splashed with colors, are superlative. There are cats, giant spaceships, heavy weapons and bizarre mutations... What more could you want?
All the attention devoted by the two authors to this experiment shines through in the comics - and I really appreciated that the experimental nature of this work is openly declared.
The 'making of' and the interview with the artificial intelligence are very interesting and entertaining.
This book is proof that artificial intelligence, if used professionally and with love for storytelling, can be a revolutionary artistic tool for writers, comic artists and illustrators...
PS: The weird flaming mini-cat deserves a story of its own...

After having seen so much hilarious mess ups from AI generated entertainment, I was bracing myself to laugh at this comic. I have to say they did it right. The AI generated material had to be tweaked and edited to make sense. It's a good story with good artwork, Plus an explanation at the end describing what the artists did and some of the throwaway material that AI provided.

The authors admit that this was an experiment. They took an idea for a graphic novel and used AI to do the artwork, changing the story as panels were created. Did it work? Well, it's a (mostly) coherent story, thought it does not really have a point. The artwork (which the authors had to tweak in other software) is consistent. But given what it is - an experiment - it isn't bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intrigante e ben realizzato

5.0 out of 5 stars The first glimpse into an exciting world

The story is short but packs a punch harder than you would expect in that number of pages. A new Universe is born and I'm looking forward to knowing more about it. It's sci-fi, with a touch of noir and the protagonist, a hard-boiled space cowboy (who happens to also be a cat) shows a fascinating, complex personality, not without some sense of humour.
I found the AI experiment interesting, particularly how the authors describe their process.
