The use of hypnosis to treat human problems and suffering is probably as old as the history of man's attempts to heal suffering. Although with different forms and names, hypnosis was also known in the most ancient primitive populations, who used it not only for therapeutic purposes, but also for divination: hypnosis phenomena were read as a gift or power of the divine and applied in the most disparate through the prophet, or the shaman, or the doctor, or the priest. As already underlined by Katalin Varga, head of the department of Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest at the conference on the new generation of hypnosis 2019, the research launched by Alessandro Norsa in the field of hypnology on this topic "has opened a new field of research". This volume is an innovative study survey on these methods which, starting from the origins of Western culture, extends to other regions of the world where they are still practiced today, retaining all the charm and power of the culture of the origins.
