- Reviewed in Canada on December 12, 2023I don't know a coach who hasn't struggled with parents. Most choose to ignore the problem and shut parents out, which inevitably exacerbates the situation and often pits coach and parent as adversaries. Coaches ignore the parents to avoid conflict, while parents harness their anger in ways that can be destructive to their athlete son / daughter, which often has a negative affect on team culture.
Through thoughtful examples, JP reminds us of the bond between parent and child and provides effective strategies to earn their support, turning potential adversaries into true partners, in the emotionally charged world of competitive athletics.
JP provides real and practical strategies, which serve to engage parents and create a constructive, accountable, and supportive environment, which ultimately best serves the athlete and the team.
You'll want to read the book with a notepad and a highlighter. You'll be taking lots of notes to bring with you to your team...
