Short stories for those who don't read them…
  • An aging, ex-musician working inside the incinerator chamber of an old 19th century hotel discovers a locked room that contains a Book of Souls of tenants of the past century.
  • A soldier returning from the Iraq War meets a beautiful and enigmatic girl waging her own military campaign, as darkly terrifying as the one he left behind.
  • The son of a New Orleans mobster hit-man receives a beyond-the-grave message from his once-abusive, now-dead father that changes everything he thought he knew about their lives.
  • A homeless man, collecting cans to survive, finds himself being followed by a stranger he is sure is the reincarnation of Dick Tracy.
  • A woman who has lost her Texas ranchman husband and any further meaning to her life, is suddenly contacted by a young runaway cousin whose parents are also dead, and is now in hot pursuit of her own aimless existence.
  • A young American soldier newly stationed in Cold War Europe encounters a German girl as mysterious as she is beautiful, and, he soon learns, as deadly dangerous as the atomic missiles bunkered into the surrounding pastoral hills, facing east.
And other tales…

Biografía del autor

James Snyder was born in Memphis, Tennessee and fell in love with the cadence and sound of storytelling as a child, listening to the meandering tales of his Southern grandmothers and great aunts. While still a child, his family moved to Napa Valley, California where he attended middle and high school, and began taking writing classes at the local college. He left after a year to join the military, and was a soldier with a tactical mobile operations unit in Germany. It was there, while pulling a Harz mountaintop guard duty one night during a snowstorm, he had the chance encounter with another soldier that ultimately became the genesis for his debut novel, the military thriller, AMERICAN WARRIOR. He is also the author of the suspense thriller DESOLATION RUN, the young-adult trilogy THE BEAUTIFUL-UGLY, and other literary works. "Berlin Diaries" is his blog at JamesSnyder.net where he further discusses the backgrounds of his writings. He currently lives in Texas.

5,0 de 5 estrellas Wonderfully crafted series of short stories - READ THESE!
Reseñado en Estados Unidos el 24 de septiembre de 2015
A great series of short stories from a talented and skilled author. Each story is different, and each has it's own tone. Wonderful writing from Mr. Snyder. I was sorry to finish the series - they were totally entertaining. It's nice to see craftsmanship, skill and a great use of language to set a tone/mood work so well together.

A BIG thumbs up to James Snyder. I'll be looking for more of his work.

Unique sampling from a unique period. One sensed looking over the author's shoulder at events more significant than the matter-of-fact way the characters relayed them.

Really liked these stories walking a tightrope between realism and speculation, with fascinating characters facing critical challenges.

5,0 de 5 estrellas Well written, a good read
Reseñado en Estados Unidos el 15 de septiembre de 2015
This is a collection of stories, each one unique and fascinating. So developed was each, I found it delightful as if I had a number of short books. It was a very satisfying read. The language is clean and there is no untoward violence but all are adult themed.
