4,6 de 5 estrellas 25 valoraciones

AIRN's Latest Book Aims to Promote the Research, Science and Practice of Implementation The science to service gap has produced a quality chasm that prevents countries around the world from realizing their goals for improved health, education, and social services. With a log jam of evidence-based innovations ready to be used in practice, it has become clear that more attention must be given to implementation practices if the quality chasm is to be crossed. AIRN's latest book Implementation Practice and Science summarizes and synthesizes advancements in implementation practice and science over the past 50 years. Key implementation frameworks are outlined in-depth including: Usable Innovations, Implementation Stages, Implementation Drivers, Implementation Teams, Improvement Cycles, and Systemic Change. With over 300 pages and over 130 if-then predictions the book weaves a mid-level theory toward the science of implementation. At the same time, the book is anchored in practice. Countless examples, and near 100 figures and tables are tailored to practitioners, teams, and organizations looking to implement and scale effective innovations - so that entire populations can benefit. The resulting common concepts, common language, and common measures in this book promote more precise communication regarding predictions and results. With increasing clarity and precision, the science of implementation can be crowdsourced with researchers around the world contributing to a common knowledge base.

Implementation Practice and Science, is a well-written and well referenced book that will help me articulate to the people with whom I work in the areas of micro-loans, management of universities, and other areas the importance of monitoring the fidelity with which their change efforts are implemented.

Monitoring the fidelity of interventions is just one of many important evidence-based approaches to implementation that are reviewed in this excellent book. The importance of independent variables’ fidelity is an area which receives too little direct attention in the literature. People working in “applied areas” frequently are faced with questions regarding the validity and effectiveness of a given solution or how to adapt or scale up a proven intervention. In that respect, the knowledge and insights that this book brings is a more than welcomed change. As mentioned in their first chapter:

“Populations benefit when effective innovations are supported by effective implementation in enabling contexts that facilitate their use on a socially significant scale.”
    Jaime A Hermann PhD.

Implementation Practice and Science came out in 2019, right when I was having a bit of a professional identity crisis. I was convinced I had read and learned ‘everything’ about Change and that was just really depressing. I only learned of this book’s existence four weeks ago and it’s now firmly on my list of most important Change books I’ve ever read.

I’ll just mention up front that this is not a typical management book that could have been an article. It has some stories and examples but other than that, it’s quite academic and doesn’t waste any time trying to simplify things that are complex by nature. Don’t let that put you off, it’s worth the mental labour and then some.

It’s all in the title, this book is 100% about Change implementation and every aspect required to make it work. No fluffy anecdotes, unrelatable examples and reinvented wheels in this one. 17 short chapters and 12 hours later you’ll wonder why you never heard of this book and how you ever made sense of Change before.

Not only is the book full of great quotable statements, you’ll also find yourself nodding along with the straightforward logic the authors present page after page on HOW to do change. It’s basically a manual on how to implement Change in any kind of circumstance with checklists, recommendations and next level expectation management.

Despite the initial complexity of the model they present, you’ll find that it represents how Change really works in all kinds of workplaces. To me it looks like the best parts of ADKAR, SCRUM, Kotter and Cynefin put together in a way I had never conceived of before.

Since I haven’t had an original thought about Change since 2020, this book really came at the right time for me and I hope it does the same for you.
