In a world of vampires, witches, nudity, young love and steamy romances things are about to start heating up as more secrets are revealed and lives are once again in danger. In a unique world of the unknown filled with many possibilities the stakes are higher than ever in this fast paced, thought provoking and at times steamy series, things are about to change forever. Now I know alot of vampire series can be a hit or miss, but honestly I love these characters and their world. The writing is easy to follow and hold a good pace, keeping you guessing and wanting more as you read along. The sex scenes! I almost forgot to talk about this and had to go back, steamy doesn’t even cover it guys! It’s like a mills and boon novel but better! I cannot wait for the next one or the Shifter series to see where these characters and the world M.L. Tompsett goes. Vampires, witches, paranormal, non stop action, and some steamy scenes, yeah this book it all. ML Tompsett has a way with words and story telling that draws the reader so deeply into the story the entire outside world melts from consciousness. We read to be entertained, enter new surreal, imaginative, and horrific worlds that exist beneath the folds of time and in plain sight, and we love to indulge in a story that tantalizes, intrigues, and captivates the imagination, but we also read to get to know characters we can relate to even if the world they live in is unforeseen and so alien to us we forget what reality is like in our daily lives, But it's those characters that drive a successful series, people we can cheer for or love to hate. Dark Surprises is one of those books, the series continues to escalate and add to the depth of the character we've grown fond of in the first installment. Alexia is the epitome of the above, her character is written with layers of depth, secrets, and yes some truy devious and dark surprises.

In this second book of the series, Alexia is now a teenage wife and mother of twins. Madly in love with her hot, sexy husband Drake, she’s also part Vampire with magical powers that usually belong to Witches, and a member of a royal family that has lots of secrets. Complicating matters further, her best friend Lucy, a Witch, is in love with Drake’s brother.

When Drake is kidnapped by evildoers, Alexia races to his rescue and is able to save him with her warrior skills and magic. But there are more adventures to come and deadly perils to face. Will Alexia triumph over the dark forces that threaten to destroy her and her family and friends?

An unusual combination of paranormal forces, with Witches battling Vampires and beings who combine vampirism with witchcraft. The young lovers Alexia and Drake are likeable characters who are easy to root for. Steamy sex scenes. Many secrets and surprises along the way.

The second book is just as good as the first. With non-stop action, Alexia and Drake face more life-challenging situations where they must take charge, lead teams, and help out some new friends. I love the unconditional love and devotion between Drake and Alexia, sharing their love with their children. When Alexia begins to learn more about her heritage, she gains even more confidence in herself and her ability to lead the realm of Darshia. Just as before, the romantic scenes between the married couple are quite steamy. The unexpected twists in the story make it all the more exciting. This was a fun, original story which was a pleasure to read!

I enjoyed reading more of Alexia and Drake's story although Dark Surprises could be read on its own with no introduction. Best friend Lucy is back with a few surprises of her own, some joyous, and others the basis for the dark side of the plot. There is good pacing throughout, a lot of passion and plot, extended family troubles, action and adventure - and explosions. Very appealing for anyone who like a good balance of sexy and always simmering danger. A great story where evil gets punished and good prevails, at least in the witch and vampire realm!

This steamy paranormal is a well-crafted, enjoyable read and although the second in a series, it’s my first by this author and was an entertaining standalone book. There is no lack of plot, sensuality, and storyline as the protagonist Alexia a young wife and mother of twins is challenged when her husband Drake is kidnapped. Alexia, part vamp with supernatural powers is one brave heroine as she sets out to find him. And here’s where the storyline picks up tension/conflict. Will she succeed? No spoilers here but suffice it to say this did not disappoint.
