    Tender and bittersweet, this story will find a relatable place within us all. Grief comes in so many forms, and in Losing Vern, the character of Vern is shown to the reader through the memories, words, laughter, and tears of those he left behind. As mourners, the days immediately following the loss of a loved one are usually confusing, maddening, and surreal. We can be surprised by those who step up, those who are unable to grieve, and those whose serenity of the moment signals an ability to cope--for now.
    Let us take from this story the universal need for compassion, patience, and empathy.
    Losing Vern is not a story soon or easily forgotten.

    What a great read, in some ways Vern and I are very similar and my son (Wally) wore only orange up until High School, so I was totally locked in and was sad when it ended. As a sequel is probably unlikely, I would be all over a prequel for sure, tremendous job Andrew, now I must get back to near death by a thousand cuts, another book that I’m enjoying tremendously, apparently Andrew and my upbringing were both injury prone, fortunately I didn’t need as much assistance as he.🤪

    This story took a brief moment in time that resonated deeply with me, having lost both my mother and my sister within months of each other.
    The writing is clean and flows well , Vern is precious. The interaction between the characters is so plausible and brings them to life.
