    MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS - What I love about this series is that it has a great balance of murder & intrigue as well as love & romance & passion. Lara is investigating a murder outside of Sweet Hell, which is a kink club, a gambling joint, an underground hedonistic wonderland? As the story progresses we find some incredibly crazy things happening inside the club & some of the members of this club? The surprises just keep coming!! The love affair between Lara & HEAT investigator Damon is strained by Lara's dedication to her job & Damon's obsession with getting help for his sister Carole. Damon makes a bold statement, asking how Lara is unable to trust the one man who loves her beyond anything else. Damon even claims Lara doesn't have a heart, that she is cold as ice. She was on the edge of losing him anyway but now Damon has to go undercover in the sex club & the owners must believe Damon is single & on the market for some kink. Damon does something while undercover that I really hated, shared a piece of his relationship with Lara without letting her in on his secret mission. Lara knows how far she is willing to go in an investigation & is only upset where this would have been a deal breaker for me!! While Lara is desperately trying to solve the murder mystery as well as the arson problem & a traitor within her organization, she also has to face her father who treats her like an insubordinate cop. Lara & Damon get to work with Nick Anscombe!! Great tie-in to Nicola Claire's other great series. I loved that Damon is taking more control in bed & is finally unleashed his inner sex god! He has always been hot with Lara but now he realizes Lara is open to his kind of aggressive seduction & he doesn't have to hold back! Finally, finally, finally Lara runs to Damon & tells him she is so lost & alone without him & it was beautiful! "You're more important than my job Damon. My job fills the empty spaces inside my head. You fill the empty spaces in my heart." Lara comes a long way in this second book & because the mysteries are still not entirely solved I hope to find Lara & Damon together in book #3 working as a couple!!

    I wish Amazon had six stars since this book was so good. When romance meats detective you usually get a good romance with a weak detective story or vice verse. Claire can sure tell a great story. Both the romance and the detective story were strong, interesting, and well paced. Claire left just enough clues so I could follow what was happening, but left me guessing just enough so I couldn't put the book down. Also, even though the crime was disturbing, the author has a great way of writing that made the story interesting without being gross.

    The story
    A women is killed next to a gentleman club. Police Detective Lara Keen starts investigating. Unfortunately the club has ties to her father and boyfriend ...which makes for a very soul searching experience for Lara.

    What I liked
    Everything. The romance could have stood on it's own -- so could the detective story.

    What I didn't like
    The cover -- The cover looks amateurish - I thought this book would be a poorly written. The book is excellent - don't let the cover fool you.
