When Big Wig moves to the beach, Big Trouble comes with him.

Doubtless Bay’s resident private investigator has a dilemma on her hands. With the arrival of a new detective in her small, beachside town, Summer O’Dare has a decision to make: Let him think she’s merely a little kooky or open up the doors to her skeleton-harbouring closet and invite him in.

Trust, though, has to be earned. And Detective Douche is walking on the wrong side of that equation. Three days in and he’s already dating the realtor next door; Summer’s high school nemesis.

Add in a missing biker, a murdered man, stolen intellectual property, and the surfer staying in her spare bedroom, and Summer’s summer looks like it might heat up to scorching.

Just as well she’s got a few tricks up her sleeve. And a penchant for donuts. But will the detective welcome them? The tricks, not the donuts. Or will he think Summer strange like everyone else does?

A fast-paced cozy mystery set in Northland, New Zealand from Amazon Bestselling Author Nicola Claire.

I don't know why it took me so long to read Chasing Summer but it was worth the wait. Once I started it , I couldn't out it down. Waiting to see how PI Summer O'Date would solve a case with her kooky senses. And wondering will happen with Detective Douche.

A great first book in a fantastic new Nicola Claire series. An intriguing mystery, colourful characters and an introduction to a new world. Fans of Nicola’s other series will enjoy this new journey.

A lovely well written mystery with an element of the psychic and romantic chemistry (clean romance). Nice characters and storyline, with good descriptive writing throughout. A really good first book in a series. Constant page turner. I can’t wait to read more..

A wonderful read by a new author to me. A PI that has psychic feelings that lead to getting breaks in cases that seem unsolvable. Wonderful colourful characters that make the read come alive.
When a new detective comes to town she is surprised to find that he wants her to help with a case. Getting a contract signed is her number goal as she's been shorted too many times. Alright so he's easy on the eyes but her arch enemy has already marked him as hers. The case seems somewhat strange. An item has been stolen but what it is is kept a secret. Relying on the feelings she gets she starts investigating. Add in murder, biker gangs, a turf war, narcotics and her being roofied whilst trying to uncover the secrets of the people around her. Can she use her feelings to bring this to an end? Will there be more deaths to follow? Can she stop the war that's about to explode in her backyard? What is she going to do about the handsome detective?

The first in a new series from Nicola Claire, and her first cozy mystery. This was wonderful!

*** POSSIBLE VERY MINOR SPOILERS ***

The protagonist is a female PI named Summer O'Dare who lives in the sleepy Northlands area of New Zealand. She is approached by the new town detective Alex Danvers to assist with what should have been a straightforward case of corporate espionage, but events spiral into crimes of a very different nature!

I really enjoyed this story. Claire writes wonderful characters and Summer and Alex are no exception. Summer is sweet and funny, far from perfect and happy to be exactly who she is. She has a thread of vulnerability that she disguises with brash humour and funny t-shirts, when she allows it to show however it is all the more powerful! An intriguing twist is that she has an intermittent 'psychic' talent. She would argue that she is not a true psychic, not a 'freak of nature', but she is unable to accurately label her gift, and since the death of her grandmother has been unable to tell anyone what she has to deal with. I loved the way it looks as though in Alex she might find more sympathy and understanding than she ever expected.

Alex is more of an enigma. We are told a little of his backstory, but it's like a trail of breadcrumbs. Summer is our point of view and as she learns more so do we and to exactly the same extent. What is revealed definitely whets the appetite though so I hope Claire is able to write more in this series.

Unlike many of Claire's previous books, this is totally clean of sex (there isn't even any kissing) but that doesn't slow down the pace or the chemistry. The plot moves at a quick pace and the dialogue is sharply funny. The writing is excellent as always and Claire's love for the Northlands is obvious.

    *Many thanks to the author*

This book really good if you like cozy mysteries that are kicked up a notch- it has a REAL complex mystery with a lead character who actually acts like a private investigator and looks for clues. It has a touch of paranormal and a touch of romance that fits so well into the story. Every character encountered adds spice to the plot- so well written! I will read the next one.

Occasionally I'd say to myself that this is crazy it wouldn't happen and then fall right back into the book... It's fiction... But Nicola makes you feel like your right there with Summer. Strong woman and this one is a bit kooky but she knows what's important and sticks to it.
