Broken Wide Open: A Sand and Sunset Novel - Stand-alone Romance Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 31 ratings

"Broken Wide Open is a roller coaster ride of emotions. Grace and Leo tell their story sharing the uphill, downhill and screaming drops in a way that kept me glued to the book from beginning to end. I found Broken Wide Open to be everything I enjoy in a good book. Author Susan Griscom has created characters that are impossible not to like and a plot that never falters. I highly recommend Broken Wide Open to every romantic genre reader - it is a definite winner. " -- Readers' Favorite

At four years old, Grace Davidson lost her father in a bizarre accident, so unsettling that her mother never liked to talk about it. Her father had been her rock, her hero, her everything. Now, years later, she's all grown up and has married her new hero, until she discovers his betrayal with her best friend. As revenge, Grace takes off, alone, for the honeymoon she was supposed to have with her now, ex-husband...

To an exotic resort, miles from home...

Leo D'Amoré was just a man Grace met while enjoying a little un-honeymoon retaliation against her husband of all of three hours. They became friends. No last names, no promises, commitments, or ties. Yet even after she returns home, she can't get him out of her head. Too bad she'll never see him again. Starting over in a new town after finding her dream job, Grace suddenly runs into Leo in the last place she expects. But is he the man she believes him to be? She thought so, until everything becomes broken wide open. Including her heart.

A feel-good story that will take you from the darkest depths to the highest of highs as the past collides with the present. Buy Broken Wide Open now and start reading this highly emotional story today!

Susan writes paranormal and contemporary romance—steamy and sexy are the way they usually turn out. She's a huge fan of superheroes and bad boys confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers, and abilities beyond the norm mixed with hot, blow-your-socks-off romance.

She grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania doing a lot of daydreaming. It’s no big surprise that she writes romance stories since many nights as a child, she would lay awake fantasizing about her knight in shining armor.

Her wild imagination sparked her first story at the age of twelve; a story that her sixth-grade teacher adopted for the class play that year. Having never achieved fame and fortune for that play, she attempted life the normal way with other activities, such as, working as a food lab technician, bartender, cell phone repair technician, and mom.

Now she lives in Northern California, where she still spends a lot of time daydreaming. She loves to drink wine, and fortunately, there are several local wineries close by. Together, she and her modern-day knight have five great superhero kids, ten mini-superhero grandkids, six grandpups, and a too-intelligent border collie named Xena Warrior Princess, who has stolen her heart and keeps her very active.

When she's not writing, she enjoys hanging out with friends and family, wine tasting, dancing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and throwing a green ball for that very smart border collie.

When Susan said she was writing a dystopian romance I wasn't sure if i would like it - well - I loved it and I think you will too.To give up on love, to be too broken to consider it even - then a small hope that maybe you can be whole but that gets extinguished too. What else can happen to two people. Are they meant to be together or not? You will have to read this book to follow all the lovely twists and turns to find out what can really happen.

I really enjoyed this book, it was very emotional at times. Leo had a major trauma in his past that Grace (unknown to them) was linked to. There were a couple of great twists towards the end of the story! It had me hooked from start to finish and I did shed a few tears at the emotional scenes! I adored them as a couple though and had my fingers crossed for them the whole time!

This standalone is anything but broken. Right from the beginning you are pulled right into the story. Grace is a strong woman that experienced true heartbreak. She goes to Bora Bora alone trying to get herself together. She meets Leo in Bora Bora. Fireworks are exploding but things don’t go the way you would expect. Then back to reality. Grace is getting back on her feet after the wedding that never should have happened. Grace runs into Leo and the tension is palpable. There is always something in the background that is trying to keep them apart, but the attraction is incredible. As the story continues you feel like you are going to continue on with a predictable happily ever after. But then you are hit unexpectedly with a twist. When this happened it clenched my heart. The raw emotion that you take from these characters is moving. Then I started questioning whether the outcome of this story was going to be what I wanted. It was anything but predictable and is an absolute must read. The spin is perfectly flawed. It’s exactly what you need for an incredible ending.

This was a quick, easy read, and hit the mark. While it started out relatively simple, and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to continue, I'm glad I did. Grace and Leo's story picked up and was quite enjoyable. There were some surprises that I hadn't anticipated, and that I really liked.

I'll certainly be on the lookout for more books by Susan Griscom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book Of The Year!

A fantastic novel that brings out the truth of love, happiness and what makes a true family. This story is filled with all the feels that only a real emotional rollercoaster could bring out. Love, hate, friendship, loathing, jealousy and much more took me for a wild ride and finally landed me back on my feet in happy tears. The story of Leo and Grace has very quickly become a tie as my favorite Susan Griscom book. Her attention to detail made me feel as if I was actually at the beach, on the cliffs overlooking the ocean or sinking my toes into the soft sand. I very highly recommend this to everyone and can’t wait to get a paperback copy to keep on my precious Signed Books shelf!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book

Love this book. I officially have a new book boyfriend in Leo. Lots of surprises I didn't see coming, full of HOT love scenes that made me blush, and very sympathetic characters. Both these people deserve a break and, of course, to be together. The writing tears at your heartstrings (in a good way) and I love that the characters seem like real people, instead of so many of the completely unrealistic alpha males in so many contemporary romances. Leo is kind, smart and loves our heroine so much! Sigh. Pick this one up if you're looking for an amazing escape.

5.0 out of 5 stars a gripping story.

I read an exerpt in the author's newsletter and immediately pre-ordered this book as I was hooked! When I got the opportunity to read an ARC copy, I jumped on it as I did not want to wait. Grace and Leo are such a great couple with broken pasts to overcome. The secondary characters are quite well-drawn as well. There are points in the story were I thought I knew what would happen next and the author surprised me. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a gripping, emotional read.
