About the author

Dr. Klaus Leopold is a computer scientist and management consultant who has been supporting companies worldwide in agile transformations for 15 years. He is the developer of the Flight Levels Model and has authored several books on agility and Kanban, including "Flight Levels" (co-authored with Sigi Kaltenecker) and "Rethinking Agile".
In his early years in the Agile Community, Klaus focused intensively on Kanban and wrote two standard works on this topic: "Practical Kanban" and "Kanban Change Leadership" (co-authored with Sigi Kaltenecker).
Klaus is co-founder of the Flight Levels Academy and managing partner of LEANability GmbH.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 January 2019A great read. Short and illustrated makes it very consumable. Content, as a concrete case study, is great for organisations about to embark on increasing their agility or who are "Doing Agile" and struggling to exhibit agility, to be agile. Suitable for leaders at all levels who might have little prior knowledge or for those with more knowledge.
Love the illustrations, use of colour, clarity and repetition of the things that should be repeated :) I can see this helping the thinking process at many organisations. As Klaus says in the book, this is not to be cookie cutter copied. Use the contents as inspiration for your own unique context. "Working costs money, delivering makes money".

I’m an agile coach involved in the transformation of a large enterprise everything (I mean EVERYTHING) in this book is useful. Written about how Klaus helped turn around a failing transformation in well explained steps. My only critical feedback would be proof reading the book. It has been translated from German - at times the grammar was a little clunky in the body of the text as well as in the illustrations. This book deserves a corrected second edition as its a keeper and one I’ll be re-reading several times. Thanks Klaus for your words of wisdom.

Building on Klaus’ excellent presentation (which I have been fortunate enough to witness in person!), this book gets to the core of what Agile really is about, supported by dogma free, illustrative examples that make it easy to follow and relatable to the reader. I’ve gained more value from this (and Klaus other publications) than other books more than double in length to this one. Highly recommend it as a must read for 2019 for any serious practitioners or leaders!

As an ex software developer turned manager there is nothing here I would disagree with, it was refreshing the author advocates not to follow the agile rule book blindly but instead focus on dependencies. Also some acknowledgment we live in the real world and some dependencies will never likely go away (not every team will have a legal advisor on daily standups).

This book helps us how to think about the business agility. Agility is not only a tool that you use to develop a new product, but is a philosophy that make you think about the strategies of your organization. The three level that the company should adopt, the way to think about the goals, where you want to reach or how many efforts do you waft to spend to have this profit or revenue.

I freakin' loved this book. It was an eye opener. "We're so freakin' Agile" in a company that is totally not. great examples, great vulgarisation... It's a must read for anyone in a position of management. Scratch that: It's a must read for anyone.

I read this book in one go! Exactly as the title suggests, it explains why making your teams Agile does not translate to making your business Agile, and in fact, it may become quite the opposite.
I enjoyed the author's easy-to-read writing style, which steered clear of technical aspects like how to implement a framework like SAFe or LESS. Rather, it was full of actionable advice about what you need to do.
If I had to summarise the key takeaways from the book, there are four things you can do for a business to become Agile:
1. Focus on VALUE DELIVERED to the customer.
2. Step back and take a HOLISTIC VIEW of what is happening.
3. Limit the number of activities or tasks by CONTROLLING THE WIP (Work in Progress) LIMITS.
4. DEAL WITH DEPENDENCIES (between teams) proactively by making them visible.
All in all, an unputdownable book that I would definitely recommend!
