About the author

Mike, an early innovator in the cryptocurrency realm, embarked on his Bitcoin journey in 2011, during the nascent stages of digital currency when decentralized money was still a novel idea. With the price of Bitcoin at a mere seventy cents, Mike's foresight and determination led him to mine the cryptocurrency, leveraging the computational power of GPUs in an era where mining pools were the crux of Bitcoin acquisition. His story is not just about the triumphs but also the tribulations, including the infamous Mt. Gox hacks and the eventual shutdown of the Silk Road, which shaped his perspective on the volatility and the potential of this digital asset.
Mike's expertise extended beyond mere acquisition; he became a proponent of self-custody and robust security principles, advocating for a mix of hot and mainly cold hardware wallet storage to safeguard digital assets against the backdrop of a tumultuous market.
The common misconception that early Bitcoin miners like Mike must have amassed fortunes is challenged by the reality of the market's early instability. Despite mining Bitcoin when it was worth fractions of a dollar, Mike focused on the sustainable growth of his operation, ensuring that his endeavors could support his living expenses while fueling his passion for coding and optimization. The longing for a time machine is a sentiment shared by many early adopters, yet the lessons learned and experiences truly define Mike's journey.
Mike is a Serial IT Entrepreneur with a Master of Science in Commercial Enterprise in Space from Florida Tech, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship & Marketing from Kent State University, and a CompTIA Security+ CE Professional.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 July 2024I usually like finishing a book before leaving a review but this could take me a while! I am only half way through but want to give my feedback.
I have a personal history with Bitcoin and still invest a little. I didn't, however, know much of it's history, philosophy or ultimate intended purpose. That's what this book aims to provide narrative on. There is so much detail and relaying of first hand experience from the very early days of Bitcoin. As this cryptocurrency becomes more ingrained in our future I think more and more people are going to want to know how it all began. This book is a good starting point.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 December 2024I was a bit skeptical about another Bitcoin book, but this one is actually quite good. Kicks of the the origins and some interesting stories and guides you through alot of good info.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 January 2025Michael A. Duniec’s Crypto and Bitcoin explores the past, present, and future of cryptocurrency, with a special focus on bitcoin. He covers a wide range of information relating to cryptocurrency and bitcoin, from bitcoin halving and mining, crypto and custodial wallets, decentralisation, hashing algorithms and functions, to NFT’s. It’s a lot of information to take in but genuinely interesting and relatively easy to understand, although it could be quite repetitive at times. I recommend this book, particularly if you’re starting out with investing in cryptocurrency and already have a basic knowledge of the subject. However, I wouldn’t recommend it to people interested in investing but with no idea how to start, as I don’t feel like it explains in enough detail how to begin investing. “To be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.”
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 October 2024This was surprisingly good. Still, I don't see mysekf trading with bitcoin. Learnt enough to understand the intricacies
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 December 2024This was a very unique read about a subject I knew nothing about. And while I now have a little bit better of an understanding I will admit some of it went over my head. This read was very informative and gives the reader a lot of details from the crash of the financial market to the creation and progression of Bitcoin and how this could be the best thing for our financial future. For someone who would like to increase their knowledge around this topic I would recommend it. For someone like me within next to no knowledge of what it even is, it is explained in a way that makes part of it more understandable.
I could see the authors points of view in regards to the possibilities of using Bitcoin instead of "money" we we know it and cutting out the middle men so to speak. I also like how the author covers the pit falls and what went wrong along this way giving this book a well rounded feel that wasn't biased.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is a beginner or a more experienced investor as it contains guides and tips for everyone. For me personally digital currencies are still a little over my head but at least I know feel able to join a conversation such this topic arise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tons of Great Information!
This book is packed with an abosolutel ton of information from A-Z about Crypto and Bitcoin. For me, as I'm a realtive beginner the material is complex and thorough and took me a signicicant amunt time to get through. In my opninion if you are a beginner or just exploring Crypto you might want to start with a book thats a little more basic. Even with that siad the book is really intersting, well researched and well written. I think its a teriffic read and certainly worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Understanding the bitcoin
In this book, I had the opportunity to Investigate the Bitcoin system. I learned that it is composed of three elements: users with wallets who possess keys to the bitcoins, transactions performed and disseminated across the network, and the miners who produce the blockchain of all transactions. I have seen on YouTube how people use Bitcoin ATMs to send money to strangers whom we don’t know because I have learned from this book that when a person sends money, it makes it difficult financially to trace where the money is going.
Mt. Gox is a person who became the leading Bitcoin exchange, handling the majority of Bitcoin transactions worldwide.
I like the formatting of the book; the font and letter size are excellent. The book has charts explaining the different Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT), Solana (SOL), and other cryptocurrencies. It also has websites for us to check out other resources and a picture of the author, which is wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone is talking about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency
I want to invest into digital assets for my future, i have been hearing a lot of news about crypto, from this book you can understand different protocol and assets.
I used history of cryptocurrency teaching my student at my academy. All i can say is, this technology is amazing, i wish everyone should learn and understand this.
Everything has a history but the blockchain history is amazing since its part of financial market.
I always kept all my money on banks, but now I don't expect to do that again because there is better option than the banks.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for investment opportunities.
