While there are several very accessible editions (not to mention the facsimile version of the Original Edition) of The Key to Theosophy already available in print, what does this Theosophy Trust Books edition offer that the others do not?The Theosophy Trust edition provides a high degree of readability, including several useful improvements over other editions.First, we have inserted a new set of minor section headers that indicate what that particular section discusses. These minor section headings do not replace the original section headers that also appear as line items in the Table of Contents; they simply provide some convenient reference points for the reader, and do not disturb the listings in the original Table of Contents. Second, we have selected a larger format book to allow us to set the entire book in 10.5 point Palatino Linotype, an elegant and highly readable typeface, replacing the original 9 pt. font. Taken together, this Theosophy Trust edition is a beautifully crafted book with high readability that will reward the reader with an enjoyable reading experience and be a valuable addition to their library. As to the contents, H.P. Blavatsky notes that "The purpose of this book is exactly expressed in its title, "THE KEY TO THEOSOPHY," and needs but few words of explanation. It is not a complete or exhaustive text-book of Theosophy, but only a key to unlock the door that leads to the deeper study. It traces the broad outlines of the Wisdom Religion and explains its fundamental principles, meeting, at the same time, the various objections raised by the average Western Enquirer, and endeavouring to present unfamiliar concepts in a form as simple and in language as clear as possible. That it should succeed in making Theosophy intelligible without mental effort on the part of the reader would be too much to expect; but it is hoped that the obscurity still left is of the thought, not of the language, is due to depth, not to confusion. To the mentally lazy or obtuse, Theosophy must remain a riddle; for in the world mental as in the world spiritual, each man must progress by his own efforts. The writer cannot do the reader's thinking for him, nor would the latter be any the better off if such vicarious thought were possible. The need for such an exposition as the present has long been felt among those interested in Theosophy and its work, and it is hoped that it will supply information, as free as possible from technicalities, to many whose attention has been awakened, but who, as yet, are merely puzzled and not convinced."

This amazing book has filled in many gaps of my Theosophical understandings. It is a Question and answer discussion about the concepts and the society itself. I listen to it on my kindle text to speech constantly. Its easier than most Blavatsky books, I found. Her writing style can be quite expansive and long in its explanations of her subjects. This however is more of a concise approach. I wouldnt start with this book however. A 'Textbook of Theosophy' by Ledbeater was good for me. Also this is one of the recommended books of the Society course studies.

This version of a public domain was a big surprise. The layout was well done, easy to read, and with - as far as I can tell, and I have checked many passages to the original, which is now falling apart - a high degree of fidelity to the original. If you are interested at all in what is called "theosophy", you will find this book to be highly informative, not to say, inspiring.

This book gives a very nice introduction to the Theosophical movement.

Theosophy, to me, is a religious focus that does NOT disagree with any religion, but which is, to me, a way to think about God in ways that extend beyond any normal or regular system of faith.

Years ago, my Dad was into Theosophy, and I attended some of the conferences at a regional park. (I crashed the program, not paying an entrance fee, and they acted as if I was a full member. They were more interested in my attending than they were in getting a few dollars in the pot. (It helped that I lived a mile away at the time and got free meals from the people who ran the conference center where they shared meals, so it didn't cost them anything.)

If you enjoy studying alternate religious points of view, get this book.

Like I said, the only thing that keeps me from giving it a top rating is that it is written at a very high reading level, NOT like USA TODAY which is written at an eighth grade reading level.

    Worth every penny

For someone who teaches that we must be pure in thought and emotion in order to seriously labor for spiritual ends, she sure does like to take shots at mainstream christianity and judaism... The Madame flirts with bigotry in this epic discourse of things she probably shouldn't be writing about because the "science" she reveals has no practical use for the average reader, or the average reader who thinks he/she is above average.

This book is an excellent introduction to the views of Theosophy, which in many respects is not a religion or a philsophy; it is a helpful guide to distinguish and compare theosophy both to the world religions as they are practiced and the "secret wisdom" that is also found in all world religions. As another reviewer remarked, the Glossary is a very helpful set of definitions for learning further about the theosophical perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very important book to the Theosophical Movement
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 23, 2014
It is a very good book of the Theosophical Movement and a "must read" to whoever wants to go deeper in this study. It was written in the end of the life of Madam Blavatsky, and she wrote it as questions and answers aiming to make a book which was more accessible than her main publications "The Secret Doctrine" and "Isis Unveiled", which are both very dense and difficult. However, whoever is beginning his/her studies in Theosophy should be aware that it is not an easy reading, and probably other introductory book should be read beforehand in order to make this one more comprehensible.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is real philosophy and seach for truth
Reviewed in Germany on March 12, 2010
An excellent guide for everyone who wants to understand the great messages of all religions, science and real philosophy and where they come from (from the same source), instead of fanatism, which actually endangers humankind. Blavatsky was probably not the most simpatic person, and you can find a lot of nonsense about here in the WEB, but a true representative of the real and ancient schools of Wisdom. I am not member of the Theosophical Society but study Theosophy since 15 years. This book is the beginning of the study of this forgotten wisdom, which could and should give light and ethic to our materialistic and egoistic age. This is the most didacticall book of Blavatsky and not for sure only for beginners! But as ancient philosofers teach for the real wisdom you need a school and a good teacher during years, and thus this is what Theosophy teaches since ages. It is an incredible book, it shows also that "There is no religion higher than truth" and that we are all brothers and sisters searching in our essence for the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent book but faulty version
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 30, 2016
The books are amazing in terms of content: they give you all the essential knowledge you need to have in order to dive deeper into the philosophical world of theosophy. However, this kindle version is faulty, as section 10 of "key to theosophy" is repeated twice and section 11, which covers karma and reincarnation and is of extreme importance, has been omitted. This is an enormous fault and should be corrected.
