Trained in cultural anthropology, Elizabeth Bodien was at first skeptical that past lives even existed, much less that exploring them could heal present-life troubles. However, the first time she was professionally regressed, she immediately experienced a clear and complete life as Rita, a Mexican woman in the 1700s. There was a deeply emotional resonance there and Bodien began to feel she could very well have been Rita of 18th-century rural Mexico, as well as any number of other people. In Journeys with Fortune: A Tale of Other Lives, Bodien chronicles nine of the most fascinating and relevant of her past lives, including lives as an abandoned child raised in a nunnery in Helvetia, a male sandal-maker in Ancient Greece, a German calligrapher who speaks with the dead, an Atlantean priestess-in-training, and even a future life. These experiences are presented with the author’s careful attention at each stage: resistance, fascination, doubt, and renewed openness. And she might not have been able to continue if it weren’t for her spirit guide, Fortune, a mysterious stone spirit who guided her progress and led her to become a writer of the “mysteries of life.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Elizabeth Bodien is the author of two books of poetry:

She holds degrees in cultural anthropology, consciousness studies, religions, and poetry, and has worked as an instructor of English in Japan, an organic farmer in the mountains of Oregon, a childbirth instructor in Ghana, West Africa, and as a professor of anthropology. Bodien grew up in the “burned-over” district of Western New York but now lives near Hawk Mountain, Pennsylvania.

Quick and enjoyable book
Journeys with Fortune is Elizabeth Bodien’s documentation and interpretation of her persona in 8 past lives that span from pre history to 1858. This book was made possible by the willingness of Bodien to explore her past lives with past life regression therapist Tom Thomason. His diligence, professionalism and sensitivity used a technique that honored her intent, and included to her spirit guide, Fortune. This is no Alice in Wonderland fantasy, nor The Wizard of Oz drama with characters playing dual roles. Journeys provides the reader with authentic dialogue and interpretations of the various lives Bodien experienced under hypnosis, for 8 different personas. The retelling of each persona’s situation, challenges and triumphs was spellbinding. The reader met Rita, Susan, Pieter, Orcus, a priestess- in- training in Atlantis, a young girl in Austria, Anthony and a pre historic child. Across these lifetimes some people do reappear and Bodien understands how their lives inform her about her present day challenges. The element that holds these sessions together, to give them a more defined focus and cosmic relevance was Fortune, Bodien’s spirit guide. He plays a huge role in her explorations, both within past life regressions and in this lifetime. He is both amused by her desire to go on this journey, but wise to help her understand patience with herself as her present self evolves. This book is an affirmation that visiting past lives can unlock some mysteries of our own present life. They can help us understand how we approach life challenges, explore threads of creativity, examine family and social relationships and bring forth lessons we may have learned.
