(4.5 star) This was my first truly smutty book in what feels like a long time. For a while, I just kept feeling like I was reading the same thing over and over. Not with this one.
This book came recommended in a Facebook group when someone was looking for a poly romance. I was a bit nervous, as most poly books just don’t deliver healthy relationship dynamics and typically always involve some level of being unethical, which are all things that give me the ick.
Anyways, this one was smokin’! I loved Gen’s internal monologue. Her thoughts about what this all means, her need to protect Noah, her brattiness at times towards Lyda, but also her willingness to question and explore things. The character development was chef’s kiss!! I love EVERYONE in this book (except one, but we won't mention him)! IYKYK.
There are only two things I would change about this book. First, I’m #TeamShortChapters, and those did NOT exist in this book. I felt like each chapter was a lifetime commitment. Did the author make it seem like they took forever? No. But I just find it hard to pick up a book (even a really good book) knowing I will have to commit to at least an hour in order to get through the next chapter. Second, it is implied throughout the book that Noah has some mental things going on, implying that the submissive male is weak. I did like that he wasn’t portrayed as physically weak (a common portrayal with male submissives) but still weak in some degree. While I am all for representation in books, I feel like the constant feeding of this male stereotype in the BDSM community is harmful. Just my opinion.
Overall, this was a great, steamy, poly, BDSM romance and I will be thinking about these 3 for a LONG, long time!

This may be my favorite book of the year. Lyda is a character that will be d@mn hard to forget, and Gen is the perfect balance between Noah and Lyda. This was just an amazing story. This is book 8 in the Nature of Desires Series. Of all the Joey Hill books I've read so far, this is my second favorite. We have a triad love story going in this book....Domme Lyda Coltrane, sub Noah and sub/possible Domme Gen. All three have been hurt and broken from some sort of trauma in their past. Question is...can these three souls help each other overcome those horrible events? Learn to trust again.....trust each other and heal those open wounds?

Gen wasn't sure what she was or if she even wanted to be labeled....gay or straight, Dom, sub or switch? Yet from the moment Lyda entered her place of work at Tea Leaves, owned by Domme Marguerite, especially when the Domme touched her....all bets were off. It was a....what the hell just happened...moment for Gen. There was something about this woman that stopped Gen in her tracks. Getting to know Noah, Lyda's sub, during a very interesting weekend. Mistress Lyda then invites Gen to The Zone, a BDSM club. When the three are together it just feels right to them all and they quickly develop a smolderingly hot relationship....as well as other important feelings of love start to encompass the three.

I really loved reading this story. I so fell in love with Lyda and found the budding love triangle containing these three people to be sweet, sexy and amazing. When some tragic events happen, their love for each other is truly tested and found to be an unmoving barrier. I really like how we get to visit with all the same characters throughout this series. Joey Hill has a real flair for giving the reader some of the hottest love scenes in romance as well as giving us a wonderful touching story line. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this awesome series.

Wow, this is a great book. Having read Joey Hill before I was ready for the aspects of Dominance and submission explored in the lush prose Joey uses in every one of her books. Finding myself invested, interested and liking the majority of characters in this book was no surprise as well. Though this is the first female/female/male book written by Joey Hill that I've read. Joey approaches the whole dynamic by having Gen, a character I knew from Ice Queen, begin by dipping her toe into the world of BDSM after a meeting with Lyda at Tea Leaves where she works. That toe dip quickly becomes a rapid dive into the deep end as Lyda introduces Noah, her submissive and he invites Gen to come to the Zone the BDSM club used in all of the stories I have read in this series thus far. The relationship between the three main characters feels real as none of them are perfect and they have to work around and with each other to conquer the issues each has. Other characters from the books I've read make either cameo or supporting part appearances and it is great to see them again even if only for a moment or two in the book. Even if you are not a person who is normally a reader of books about polyamory this is a great one to try as not only does it end happily, but the errotic scenes are infused with a great deal of emotion on both the part of the characters and the author and as such end up being far more than just sex.

Of all the series that Joey W Hill writes, the Nature of Desire sequence which follows the fortunes of a loosely interlinked group of men and women, engaged in a variety of Dominant and submissive relationships, is my personal favourite.

Literate, emotionally intense, these books place Ms Hill several steps up from her many imitators. Divine Solace explores a triad of F/f/m not usually touched on in books of this genre. Dominant Lyda, submissive Gen and fragile and emotionally damaged Noah, have all played small parts in previous novels by this author. It's an intense and emotionally satisfying read but there is one drawback and the reason I've awarded 4 stars, too much sex! This may seem like a strange criticism of an erotic romance but I suspect that Ms Hill's publisher has been putting pressure on her to increase the sex scenes. Previous titles in the series were more plot driven and although highly erotic, sex wasn't substituted for narrative.

Over all, a very enjoyable read.
