- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2013I expected this story to be as raw and shocking as other books by Joey W. Hill. It wasn't, but In a good way. This is a story about two individuals who meet online in a BDSM chat room. Neither actually acting out their dominance or submission other than online. For 18 months Mark and Nichole grow closer online but Mark forbids Nichole to find him or to meet. Nichole disobeys and finds Mark on a ferry ride. Mark is upset but agrees to one day together.
The story is a journey. Nichole loves Mark but Mark has been hurt from his divorce and his wife's betrayal by bringing up his lifestyle in court, resulting in the loss of the custody of his son. It is frustrating throughout to see how much Nichole loves Mark and to see that he cares for her but keeps repeating he will only give her the one day but her back on the ferry.
About 80 percent of the story is a view into Mark and Nichole's feelings, worries, and learning about dominance nod submission. Nichole is calm and loving throughout until Mark finally tells her to get ready and get on the boat to leave. It is heartbreaking and she shows him how broken she is. I won't ruin the ending, you will have to read it for yourself. The story was slow for me in the middle but it really does pull the reader through the character's issues. All in all I enjoyed the story. This is a different view of the A Dom and sub exploring their relationship for the first time. The reader experiences the doubts and issues from both sides.

(Most of my books are purchased from Amazon as is this one.)
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2013This could have been a,4 or 5, but the, story was just way too wordy. I got lost in it and the intensity if the story line got lost a few times. The story was great. Good characters and plot. I just don't need that much information.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2007I love this author, and have resolved to read everything that she has written. This story, like all of her others, involves a BDSM lifestyle, but like all her stories, it is the characters and their problems that are at the root of the story.
In this story, a troubled engineer and a shy, missish- woman, both overcome their inhibitions to find happiness as a couple. They meet online. The engineer is a sexual dominant but also someone with a troubled past, a past that doesn't allow him to trust very well. The 'shy kitten', the woman that he meets online is someone who he helps, at first, gain confidence in herself as a woman. He makes her change her hair, and wear more feminine clothes, all things that make her feel more confident and aware of hereself as a woman. She finally gathers the courage to seek him out and confront him in person. She takes the risk to explore what it takes to make their relationship real.
Like others of this author's works, this is a very moving story about two troubled people who help each other find fulfillment. I"m not sure why I ddin't give it 5 stars. Probably because I wasn't compelled to read it over again just after putting it down, as I have been with some of her other books. IT is very well done, though
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2012This reads like Joey Hill might have written it as a teenager. The characters aren't particularly well drawn, or interesting. I found the male lead to be downright unlikeable. Their island adventure is both bland, and somehow ridiculous. The premise, that this ultra alpha dominant guy would want to keep his relationships non-physical, is entirely out of character for him, and men in general.
Not good.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2012This is a very compelling love story drawn from using the virtural world for finding relationships. Two souls absorbed in their own personal hell finally work through their fears to find soul mates.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2019Spoiler alert??
When I buy a joey hill book, I've usually forgotten why I decided not to buy one ever again.
I start out reading them thinking, "Wow, how great - an intelligently written, sexy book about grown ups. How refreshing!"
But eventually I get to the weird part. There is always a weird part in a Joey Hill book.
In this case, it prominently features balsamic vinaigrette as a lubricant and penetration by assorted vegetables, while the male protagonist makes poorly constructed analogies between sex and assembling a proper salad.
Then we're on to the female protagonist pouting on the floor like a toddler, and a fist fight. Romance at
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2013I loved the relationship after the meeting engineered by Nicole, and as always in a Joey Hill tale, the course is not easy nor without emotional extremes, but it is always worth it in the end.
I was less impressed with Nicole as a character than I was with Mark. I loved the man AND the Dom that Mark was. I had some issues with the...stalker-like methods employed by Nicole; that kind of underhandedness is hard to rationalize, even in a fictional tale. And because of that, regardless of her determination to see them both heal together, I didn't really warm to her. Just my thoughts though, and I must say that the way it is woven into the evolution of the meeting and subsequent relationship, I do get the motive behind it. It certainly highlights the degree of connection Nicole felt to Mark.
Good contemporary story with the beautiful erotica stylings of Joey W. Hill. Can't go wrong there...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite five stars
I would have given five stars if the author (whose work I've consistently enjoyed) had created a story whose characters were more complex. This story was too short with too few opportunities to see character growth. I don't regret buying it, but I feel a little bit cheated.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best
Love this author and most other books of Joey W Hill but this seemed overly dramatic and flowery not in usual tone.
