The use of hypnosis to treat human problems and suffering is probably as old as the history of man's attempts to heal suffering. Although with different forms and names, hypnosis was also known in the most ancient primitive populations, who used it not only for therapeutic purposes, but also for divination: hypnosis phenomena were read as a gift or power of the divine and applied in the most disparate through the prophet, or the shaman, or the doctor, or the priest.
