The goal of speculative fiction has always been to examine the real world through the lens of the imaginary. By considering what could be, we gain a better understanding of what is.

The Colored Lens strives to do exactly that. By publishing four to five short stories and serialized novellas a quarter in genres ranging from fantasy, to science fiction, to slipstream or magical realism, we hope to help our readers see the world just a bit differently than before they came to us.

    Dean mainly writes science fiction and horror, and his short stories have appeared in webzines in the UK and US. A love of reading, gaming, and watching SF/F has influenced (warped) his mind enough to actually write about it.

    Dean lives with his wife and two young children in the UK. He owns a business developing and manufacturing fibre optic components. His day job consists largely of shining light through fragile glass fibres, and trying to glue very small things to even smaller things.

    Dean is a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Kickboxing and has won national and international titles in the sport. In 2003 he spent a few months living and training at a Shaolin Kung Fu academy in Northern China.

    My latest nonfiction book, Open the Door to Your Creative Life, is for anyone who wants to express themselves more fully. Its companion book, When Spirit Whispers, is a NM-AZ Book Award Winner. It recounts my personal journey through difficult life experiences and how I used my creative work for healing and self-expression. For readers who would like to explore their relationship to their Creative Self, the When Spirit Whispers Workbook is a self-guided tool with prompts and questions to explore.

    I teach writing and creative expression at the University of New Mexico and coach aspiring and beginning writers to make their creative ideas come alive on the page.
