- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2013Jimmy works in a facility that takes care of the elderly in Ohio. At the beginning, Dr. Simmons is there to talk with him and keep him company. But, the good Dr. decides to end his life.
So, poor Jimmy has been by himself for 4 weeks. His main mission is to place the deceased bodies on their beds and make their rooms neat and tidy.
The remaining question is what would you do?
Interesting story..
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2013This is the first work by this author that I have read. Not what I expected, but then I wasn't sure what to expect. An apocalyptic tale that leaves many questions to be answered, yet strangely satisfying. This is a thin slice of a larger story that could be told. I look forward to reading more from this author, who expresses much depth and complexity in a few words.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2014Ahhh...what to do when one is an orderly in an otherwise dead world (I hope to never be in this individual's circumstances!) Very good book!
This was one of some three dozen novellas I found entertaining while on our week long summer vacation thru Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky that I will be reviewing in roughly alphabetical order.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2016Another nice little piece by author Josh Holden, "Room Check" recounts the final days of Jimmy, an assisted living aide, as he prepares the rooms one last time. The story is appropriately bleak and dreary, and right up my alley for a late evening read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2015A satisfying little tale that, while it leaves most things unanswered, still feels oddly complete.
