Foundations of the Temple: A Witchcraft Tradition of Love, Will & Wisdom Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 28 ratings

“Our goal is the initiation of consciousness in alignment with Love, Will, and Wisdom to perform the Great Work.”

Build the foundation of a strong magickal practice, walking both the path of the solitary practitioner on the sorcerous road, and near to others in community, upon their own roads, for we embrace the paradox that a Witch is never alone, yet is always alone.

In this book, Christopher Penczak shares through the powers of the head, hands, and heart, opening the doors to the Temple of Witchcraft system, community, and magickal order. From seeds planted in the 1990s, you can trace the development and influences of this magical system, and learn many of the never-before publicly released images, mythologies, teachings, and symbols used within the community.

Included is an overview of the core techniques and rituals of the six book Temple of Witchcraft series, along with the deeper philosophies and structures underpinning them. Learn more about the developing culture of the Temple and its work in the physical world, including areas of service in education, military outreach, prison ministry, stewardship, women's mysteries, queer mysteries, mediation, grief, and healing. An in-depth introduction to the Temple of Witchcraft, or a deepening expansion for those already familiar with the Temple's teachings and work.

This book was great in explaining the Temple of Witchcraft core beliefs and practices, and gives a lot of information on the history of the Temple Tradition. It goes deep into the core beliefs and is beautifully written. I loved the stories about how the Temple was founded, and where it all began. It shows that the Temple is filled with real people, with real, everyday lives who live in a magickal world. I would recommend this to anyone who follows Christopher's Temple series of books, or anyone who is just curious about it. Great book!

As with all of Christopher Penczak's writing, Foundations of the Temple does not disappoint. I started studying the Temple of Witchcraft series when the Inner Temple of Witchcraft was published and have followed his teachings ever since. Not being near the home location of the Temple, this book provides a good explanation of what the Temple is all about from structure, beliefs, rituals and even some recipes for magickal foods. I highly recommend this if you are interested in learning more about the Temple of Witchcraft!

This book is a difficult read, full of erroneous commas, run-on sentences, and incomplete thoughts!
I am an avid reader and have read most of Penczak's works. I was shocked with the unprofessional writing by the time I reached the second page of Chapter 1. The reader is driven to reread many paragraphs to understand what the writer is attempting to express only to finally understand it is a poorly reworded repeat of prior statements. I am driven to analyze and correct many sentences and paragraphs searching for clarity.
Confusing his terminology, repetition, and wordiness make this book an unfortunate editing error.

I agree with the other reviewers in their praise of this book. Panczak gives a lucid overview of his Temple of Witchcraft series and adds historical and organizational material. My complaint is with the Kindle edition (hence 4 stars). Be advised there is no table of contents and anything in the center of the book can only be accessed with considerable scrolling. The first part of the book is the history of the Temple, the last a lengthy glossary and a copy of the Temple's corporate by-laws with the meat buried in the center. Being a solitary practitioner on the west coast, this is of little interest to me. I would think a table of contents wouldn't be a major problem and would add to the usefulness of the book.
