4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 88 ratings

It’s a night for adventure, for pushing the limits. Well, breaking them actually. Stacie can’t believe she’s stolen her escort’s Porsche to go back road joyriding. But damn, it feels good to cut loose from her life for one precious night. It’s just her lousy luck she catches the eye of an off duty cop.
Just her luck, indeed. Being reprimanded by Lieutenant Jake Chance, the sexiest man she’s ever seen, makes her want to break a few more laws. She’s going to throw caution to the wind and see if she can seduce her cop to go over the limits with her. Way over.
If Jake Chance is willing to hold her in his arms, Stacie knows she’ll have a memory to last her a lifetime. She just wishes dawn would never come, because when it does, she’ll have to let him go...

Stacie's life is one of despair and is dragging her down. She is the caregiver for her dying mother and for her father who is in the advanced stages of dementia. She cuts looose one night by taking her date's car and joy riding down country back roads. She's caught speeding bt Lt Jake Chance. He recognizes her pain underneath her sassy, silly, flirty attitude. She runs from him and he chases and catches her. She needs her fantasy fulfilled and he's just the man to do it. He gives her the night of passion she so desperately needs to forget, even if only until dawn. In the process he falls for her. At dawn he walks away but givesvhet the option; show up at the ballgame next week if she wants to explore a relationship.

I am a big Joey W Hill fan and this book does not disappoint. It's lighthearted and erotic. Both characters are likeable identifiable with real life. Sometimes thosecstolen moments are all we have so making memories from them is a priority.

I read this before in an anthology I think but it was just as much fun this time around. If you like a well written super hot love story with characters you can relate to then give this short read a try.

A perfectly fleshed out short that fully understands the sometimes difficult mind spaces of those who work in service professions...

I find myself saying the same things about Joey Hill's writing every time, so instead of rehashing this story, just let me say this about the experience of reading one of her books:

Like good escape is intended to do, her books and characters never fail to engage me from start to finish. What they all possess that many others never achieve, is the unerringly eerie, hit-the-bullseye ability to reach that place inside your own soul...the place you don't think anyone can ever touch and you're not sure you'd ever be ready for anyone to touch, and make you just plain feel, and to feel that it's ok.

At least one of characters in the story is always just a little bit of "you" as you read them...no...LIVE with them in the journey that is the book of the moment. It's always like, "how does she know this stuff"...and then you realize that everyone has "stuff". What many authors in this genre don't understand, is how to dig deep into that chasm, and make every individual reader get the most from a fictional story, in their own individual way.

Joey Hill's books simply add that touch of the familiar to your escape, whether that escape be in the company of vampires, In The Company of Witches (plug intended! ;o} ), or as in this "Chance of a Lifetime"--in the company of an off duty cop with power under the hood, a weapon of mass destruction, and instruments that subdue in ways the manufacturer never dreamed...or intended.

Run, don't walk, to get this, or any and every Joey W. Hill story. Your escapes will thank you for it.

This is totally that fantasy many women have had where you get pulled over by a hot cop, and when it's said and done you're bent over the hood of a car being blissfully punished. Except, Hill adds a few extras like the porche I know I've dreamed of being able to handle like a race car driver. The high speed teasing chase, and the bonus of the taunting chase on foot that really puts the cherry on top. Oh plus there's hot sex after all that and an ending I've sworn not to divulge information about. Read it if your heart can handle it!

I won't go into detail of the story just that I could not put this down! It was a hot read and my first from this author. Needless to say I have since thoroughly enjoyed many of her other titles. You won't regret adding this story to your must reads! The sex is hot and the story is sweet; what more could you ask for?

    Loved this book

Before I start, I want to say that I'm a Joey Hill fan. Her Vampire Queen series and Nature of Desire series are both great. Her series about the witches is also very good. Her short fiction is dreadful, with no story line, abysmal dialog, and consists of just a bunch of weakly connected sex scenes. This book is no exception but I justified two stars instead of one by the fact I've read worse by her. The characters were shallow and stereotypical. I really didn't care what happened to them and figured they actually deserved each other. She was sniveling and pathetic and he was Neanderthal. Hill is a very good writer when she takes the time to develop characters, plot, dialog etc. Even when she is dealing with an unlikely topic, like vampires, she makes them believable and makes her readers care what happens to them. When she just has to get something written for some publishing deadline it isn't worth reading. I'm sorry I wasted my money on this one.
