A successful theater manager just turning forty, Julie comes to North Carolina to get an erotic performance theater on its feet. Desmond Hayes is the roofing contractor hired to repair the rundown building. He’s also a rigger, well-known in the BDSM world for his rope artistry.

Des has been fighting the odds against him all his life. Though he knows he may be asking too much of her, Julie’s free spirit is a match for the fierce determination of his. He’s not letting that treasure get away—no matter how much rope he has to use to bind her to him.

A wonderful love story of two people who have given up hope of ever finding their soulmate

A wonderful love story of two people who have given up hope of ever finding their soulmate
Nobody does BDSM romance better than Joey W. Hill. Her books are just like BDSM is supposed to be: at least as much if not more about the mind than the bodily aspect of it. Like any good mistress she understands to keep the reader’s (sub’s) focus engaged and their feelings riveted to the page. She certainly managed to keep me on edge for the whole book.It is also a beautiful, heart-felt love story about two damaged souls meeting when they have given up all hope of doing so.Although now a successful small business owner, Des hasn’t had an easy life. Abandoned by his mother he grew up in a boy’s home and he always had to fend for himself. Additionally, due to the drug abuse of his mother during the pregnancy he has been saddled with a number of health issues. He has learned to manage them, but still he is aware that even living as healthy as he can he probably is not looking at a normal life span, which, among other things, has kept him entering into a romantic relationship. He has found an outlet for his need of control in the BDSM community, where the parameters of a relationship between Dom and sub are clearly delineated and just as clearly limited. He is well-respected and has carved out a life where he can be content.Julie also tries to be content. She has lots friends and lives for her work as a community theater manager in New York. She has unacknowledged submissive tendencies which in the past have led her to hook up with the wrong kind of guys. And after several disappointments she has sworn off men. So when a friend asks her to manage a theater in the rural South and to put on a BDSM performance, she doesn’t hesitate to take on this new challenge, even though she has no more than a passing acquaintance with BDSM herself. But then she meets Des and all her suppressed emotions come to the fore. While working together, a tender relationship blooms and Des introduces her to her submissive nature, while still trying to hold back, but soon Julie realizes she wants everything with Des and that she will fight for it and him…I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about a male lead with these kinds of health issues, but Joey W. Hill made dealing with them appear so matter of fact, without taking away the severity of the condition. Des is one sexy hero, not least because of his inner strength and his unbending will.5+ stars from me. Joey W. Hill is one of the most gifted writers when it comes to translating BDSM into words that chain you up and tie you down and put you in thrall to her talent.

Joey W. Hill is a master of erotic romance. Her story line and her prose are beautifully crafted. Her romance and her BDSM is hot. Her characters are flawed and real and beautifully engaging. Julie is close to 40. Her boyfriend experiences have been a string of failures. She has given up on men, but not on life. As she says to her friend Madison: "the Loser race is over. You got married and I retired from the sport." Des, our hero, is a Type I diabetic who’s a Dom and a rope artist. He’s a roofer by trade, a bit quirky, totally not what she’d expect to be her type. Both characters have real challenges to overcome in both their past and their present, and their story is a journey worth taking. You will laugh, you will cry, you will fan yourself (or more) during some very hot scenes, and you will fall in love with both Julie and Des.

I run out of superlatives when it comes to putting my feelings down on "paper" about a Joey W. Hill story. And really, this time, the title says it all anyway, but as is her habit, Ms. Hill does not settle for the tried-and-true in finding the perfect characters, despite their flaws, to place into the perfect setting.

The inestimable "Nature of Desire" series gives gentle Julie her long-awaited, well deserved though, very hard-earned HEA. Long time readers will recognize her as Marcus and Thomas' lonely friend from "Rough Canvas", but she comes into her own when she and Des navigate the usual relationship issues in the midst of some UN-usual circumstances. Des is a compellingly unconventional Hero with a penchant for all things rope and an appallingly fatalistic outlook. Their core strengths as individuals are combined into a powerful force in this emotional journey, wherein they manage, through determination and tenacity, to guide one another through self doubts and preconceived outcomes to that place where they recognize and accept the blessings in one another that fulfill them. Their life is not and never will be perfect or normal, and there will be adjustments most of us don't even want to think about, but that is the beauty of this particular tale in this particular genre:

In a literary model where everyone and everything must be perfect to achieve the desired end, Ms. Hill successfully and beautifully shows the reader that ordinary is extraordinary, and "perfect" is a state of mind. And that a happy ending may not come close to resembling that of your mind's eye, but if you're open to possibilities, it is definitely Worth the Wait.

This installment of Joey Hill's Nature of Desire series is a departure from the earlier books, with the major conflict involving the courage its characters must find to break out of their natural inclinations toward traditional dominant and submissive roles. If you are not familiar with Hills' erotic romance depiction of BDSM, I'd suggest starting with an earlier book. That way you'll be able to enjoy the appearances of characters introduced and well-developed before the events in Worth the Wait. Also be forewarned that Hill's books do not hold back. You will encounter strongly sexual situations in a variety of flavors.

Community theater provides the backdrop of the story and made for a fresh setting. The hero and heroine are challenged to overcome a variety of factors that have kept them from forming lasting relationships in the past. Just as they seem to have navigated the worst, the hero's health falls into crisis. The naturally dominant Desmond struggles to yield to the need for support from his capable but submissive new partner Julie. She's backed up by her best friends, married couple Marcus and Thomas, who are known to Nature of Desire fans from the earlier novel, Rough Canvas. I enjoy the intermingling of characters from previous stories in romance novels, so this was a bonus for me.

Joey Hill is a strong writer with delightful prose, intriguing characters, engaging dialog and rewarding plots. When I pick up one of her novels I know from the outset that I'm in for a great read. Worth the Wait is a luxurious 487 pages long. Reading it felt like a delightful four-day visit with old friends and new, catching up on the latest and making connections to enjoy in the future. This is a story I'm sure to reread more than once.

I over all enjoy this series, but an unnecessary occurrence happens in multiple books, and that a woman being attacked. It adds nothing to the story (Or hasn't this far), and after reading 3 books in a row, it's an odd crutch to fall back to. This particular entry had a few moments that were mildly fat-phobic, it annoyed me, more than it made me feel bad. I was looking forward to reading a book with an older heroine, but unfortunately she wasn't that mature.

Great tension between the 2 main characters but they were all believable. Lots of back story about diabetes and small town theatre and bdsm world. Hot hot hot sex. My only negative comment was that it was so long but not sure what you could cut out.
