Cardeno C. - CC to friends - is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few "awwws" into a reader's day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno's stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.

Heartwarming Stories. Strong Relationships. Forever Love.

It's no secret how much I love C. Cardeno's books. They are amazing and I look forward to each and everyone. This one hit me hard.

This book is about two things: unconditional love and empathy.

Most readers probably disliked Kyle, but I didn't. The old adage of "walk a mile in my shoes" screams loudly. Kyle would take two steps forward and get shoved five steps back. Brent was born into privilege and never had to fight for anything.

I enjoyed the banter between the two. It made the falling in love part so much more real. Neither could understand the other's situation and it takes a setback to push the two together. They start to understand each other and it is beautiful.

Call me soft or listening to "Helium" by Sia on repeat, but this book really hit home for me. I identified with Kyle and the struggle was real. Brent and Kyle together was magical. This is a must read. 5 stars

This was a really good read that I wished was longer. Kyle Potter has spent his life clawing his way toward a better future. When he gets the perfect job at the perfect firm in perfect Los Angeles, Kyle is sure there are only blue skies ahead. And then he meets perfect Brent Haralson. This was a good read. Kyle had a rough upbringing and he has a chip on his shoulders he was hard to like in the beginning but her grew on me. Kyle thought that Brent was a spoiled little rich kid but he wasn't. I also loved the banter between these two. I really wish it was longer. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

My favorite Cardeno C stories are apparently the enemies-to-lovers ones like this. Kyle is the only one seeing them as enemies, but Brent seems to know better than to argue that particular point. I love how fitting the title of this is in that Kyle thinks the rough edges that he needs to smooth are his southern accent and remnants of his poor upbringing, but I think it's his prickly nature and pride that makes it rough to befriend him. When his pride takes one too many blows after losing his job, Kyle accepts Brent's offer of a free place to stay and we gradually see those rough edges softening. Brent finally gets his chance to be Kyle's lover and end the enemies charade. That's what Cardeno writes so well. Two men at odds despite one or both of them wanting the other and circumstances playing out to resolve misunderstandings and get them together. This isn't quite as good as A Shot At Forgiveness, in my opinion, but it did what I was looking for by keeping me engaged in the story which I read in about an hour.

    3.5*

Rough Edges was a short and sweet read. Kyle was a hard nut to crack at first, but he quickly grew on me, once I learned about his background. His upbringing caused him to be a bit of an overachiever, and to have a big ol' chip on his shoulder, especially when it came to people like Brent, or who more importantly, the kind of person he thought Brent was. He and Brent were definite opposites in many ways, although Brent wasn't quite the slacker Kyle thought him to be.
I got a kick out of the back and forth between these two, even though Kyle tended to take it a little too far. I liked how Brent just let a lot of what Kyle said and did roll off his back.
Things kind of moved quickly between them, but with their history it wasn't hard to accept. I liked the way things worked out for them.

Wonderful story! Cardeno is indeed a romantic, and he writes so well, always with a happy ending. However, it sometimes seems like that won't happen, and Rough Edges made me wonder, but I was not disappointed. In fact, the ending was even better than I could imagine!

Die Story hat mir gut gefallen, vor allem mochte ich die Charaktere. Zu bemängeln habe ich nur, dass mir alles ein wenig zu schnell dahererzählt wurde. Einige Seiten mehr wären nicht schlecht gewesen.

I loved these two. Such a brilliant combination of snark and sweet. There was a real sense of warmth between them and the sex was hot. My only complaint is that this book was way two short as It left me wanting more.
