Chaos in the Countryside: The Novella Prequel to The Faerie Apothecary Mysteries (The Faerie Apothecary Cozy Mysteries) Kindle Edition
Settle into the cozy countryside of Moss Hill, where house-elves rent rooms, sprites live in gardens, a leprechaun is the best tailor in town, and a half-elf/half human named Carissa Shea owns a pharmacy known as The Seelie Tree Apothecary shop. Life couldn't be more idyllic for Cari, but healing humans and fae folk proves challenging at times, especially when secrets unfold in The Faerie Apothecary Mysteries.
About Chaos in the Countryside
The quiet town of Moss Hill would be in trouble if not for one daring nature faerie: a sprite known as Chaos. Though she is little, she is...fierce isn't the right word. Spirited is more accurate. She's traveled far and wide to warn the half-human, half-elf Carissa Shae about a danger that's coming to the countryside. Carissa's Seelie Tree Apothecary shop is no stranger to faeries, but with this new arrival, its owner, and Moss Hill, will never be the same. Is this cozy town ready for a little Chaos?

- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2018The characters were well defined and relationships were sketched out for the series. I think that the relationships are atypical and a bit more complex than what I normally expect of a cozy mystery and it makes it more interesting. How many best friends edit what they say because they already know that one of them can't keep a good secret to save a life? It's different and a little more fun than having the nosy best friend who knows it all and must be involved in everything or she'll bring forth the wrath of God in her panic. The main character is forced, in this situation, to be a bit more inventive in deciding how much she can take on herself and how to explain situations so that she gets help but only helpful help. Quite honestly, I liked this book better than #1. Maybe I was just in the mood for a lighter read but I enjoyed the fast pace of the mystery and it was fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2019Fun, whimsical story. Good mystery amongst the intriguing setting of this magical place. I love the description of the village of Moss Hill. Think Midsomer. Then add half human, half elf and fairy humans with a fairy village in the countryside. This story centers around the nature fairy Chaos, sent to Carissa with a note of impending doom for the village. Carissa has to find out what danger is coming and stop it. And who or what is Aibell, the white cat that keeps showing up and seems to be giving Cari hints and messages. A quick read. I enjoyed it and will be reading the next books in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2019I loved the fantasy creatures living beside humans as they do in this story. It was sweet and had me smiling. Fairies with human caregivers and friends made for a neat storyline.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2023This book is a light hearted read. Some times it’s a little confusing with all the characters. I would like to follow Cari and Chaos on another adventure.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2018I read one of the other books in the series first and when I saw this, I had to get the back story. These books have excellent story lines, especially for cozy mysteries, and the characters are beautifully developed. The writing is spot on, descriptions lively but don't bury the story, and the characters are people you'd enjoy having lunch with. I highly recommend these books and look forward to many more.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2019Cute, quirky, fun light reading. It was a bit confusing as to who was who and what sort of fae everyone was, but overall a good plot with clean writing.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2019I liked this story, however, the main characters, first name was Carissa or Cari. The villain name was also a C name. The another make character with a name of Cameron or Cam. Main fairy name is Chaos. Really! It became a tangle of C names. The storyline is good, but the author should stop naming everyone with C names, and then switching back and forth with the nicknames. Confusing. Enjoy.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2021There were some very likeable original type characters in this cozy. However, keeping track of the good, bad and pure evil characters was very difficult. Even the story was hard to follow. I did complete reading the book. I was disappointed that Chaos seemed to like strangers more than she adored Carrisa. That was a definite punch in the stomach, so to speak.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enchanting story.
I don't know why I chose this book from Amazon. but I am glad I did. I really enjoyed reading this story. I am 68 years old and this story takes me back to my childhood, and the magical stories my Mother used tell me and my brothers and sister. Of faeries and other magical people from her childhood in Ireland.
