Maria T. Henriksen is a lover of reading and writing and hopes that people will enjoy her novel as much as she enjoyed writing it.

Helping others in any capacity is what drives Maria. Not Again was created with the intent of arming teens with the necessary tools to navigate life with peace, passion, and clarity. She hopes that all readers, not just teenagers, will be able to employ those methods to overcome the stress that plagues us all.

Maria has a passion for health and fitness, and exercises on a regular basis. She can be seen running on a track, trail, or along the road several times during the week, especially in the summer. Her favorite place to run is down the shore, along the bay.

This spirit-filled Philadelphia suburbanite resides with her husband, Dave, of over two decades, along with their college-age twins. As a family, they bond over their love for sports, and each member makes every effort to cheer each other on at their competitions. Maria feels extremely blessed to have such a close family and continues to find each of them as a source of daily inspiration.

This is a book about a teenager and her spiritual & physical journey!
This may not be your typical YA Christian book because it touches on the reality of where some parents or Christians may not want their kids to tread! But in reality, it shows a realistic vantage point from the main teenage girl’s character, Christina DeRosa’s point of view; yet it also includes important teenage boys views as well! There are real teenage issues between Christina DeRosa and Avery Evans that is also shared among their friends and peers! Some issues may start younger than others but these issues do need to be bought up and discussed with your child! This may be one you want to read with or before your teenager/young adult then open up for dialogue! Many topics are touched on, such as, sex, rape, abuse, bullying, alcohol use, drug use & many trials & tribulations one may or may not go through as a teenager!Maria Hendrickson has made Christina DeRosa, Avery Evans and so many more characters relatable! I found this story very relatable growing up as a teenager in the 80’s!It is just as relatable today as it was back then! The best parts of this story is how a young teenager who once knew who God was or thought she knew what God was finds out who he really is! Christina finds out how even through the roughest and darkest moments comes light and hope! The Bible verses and story weaving throughout this story keeps you intrigued and really helps you sympathize with the characters! Really would like to read a follow up maybe exposing more of where the characters have continued to grow and more of some of the characters back stories and where they all end up in the future! This is a story that shows teenage signs of adolescents, peer pressure, bullying, lies & survival! But not survival because they made it through, but survival because many of them learned more about God, more about how God wanted them to respect themselves, their bodies and others! The forgiveness that only God can bring us to and more! The love that God can teach us to triumph anything!Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

This is a powerful book. I honestly wasn't sure if I'd like it, at first, but I became totally invested in quickly. There are some really hard topics to address, especially "not speaking out or not telling others." I'm ready for book 2.

Not Again by Marie T. Henriksen
This story is set in the 1980’s. If you were a teenager in this era, you will love all the references to 80’s music and movies. I actually started humming the songs while reading! It really set the mood! But in addition, it is a story of teenage angst and all that it entails. The awkward stages of adolescence, the peer pressure to fit in, get good grades, excel at sports and first love and the first kiss. But what if the most precious thing is stolen from you? And you can’t tell a soul about it? How can or do you recover? And at what cost?

Journey with Christina as she navigates the sea of adolescent angst. Discovers love and loss. Endings and new beginnings. “I can choose my destiny.” And ultimately, finds a relationship with God.

This book will remind you of the love of God and the ability we all have to focus upward not inward.

A terrific coming of age story set in the 1980s that involves teenage love, hormones, friendships, and rivalries amidst a young girl's significant trauma and subsequent struggle in her faith.

The story centers around the comical and beloved Christina, following her through her high school experience where she explores love and faith, while simultaneously trying to heal through the trauma from a brutal attack by a begrudging fellow classmate.

I was elated with how intricately the Author, Maria, tied the scripture into the moments where Christina needed it most as she grew into her faith.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the Author's plugs of 80s themed words, music and activities, which really set the tone for that era.

The book is part of a series, and I had to read both books to give it a fair assessment. This book is book 1 of 2 and does end on a cliffhanger.

Also, I wish to extend a warning to those readers who are sensitive to triggers. This story is gritty and does contain intense subject matter.

Not only does Maria H portray the young adult roller coaster thoughts in a very true life manner, but she hits with graceful and sincere honesty the darker thoughts that in one way or another we all have had in our lives. But to so humanly portray the search for God and how to navigate the harder times in life , to see the mistakes made and learn from them and move on, is a testament to whole life growth. Wash rinse and do better next time is a life long process we all can aspire to. I will be recommending this book to all my friends.

I enjoyed this book very much. It reminded me of my youth and all the confusion and pain that went with it. Many scenes were extremely intense. I would recommend Parents reading this along with their teen, so it can be discussed.

Overall, this was a great read. Christina is a sweet teen with all the growing pain issues. The characters are real and engaging. I found myself drawn into the story and remembering my own youth, along with the music and innocence. The awkwardness of being a teen and loving your first boy, getting your first kiss, while trying to fit in with those around you. Peer pressure was also an issue, and things didn't always go well for Christina.
    Innocence is robbed.
Christena finds help through help of her friends, and a newfound faith in God.
It's very much worth the read

5.0 out of 5 stars The most IMPORTANT message is in here!
Reviewed in Canada on May 4, 2024
This is, indeed, a coming of age story, but not (hopefully) a typical one. Although the book contains more graphic scenes/language than are often written in the CF genre, it fits with the reality of the story. I feel there are many important concepts touched upon in here. In my opinion, the most important example is the unconditional love shown toward the MC by an older lady she respects. This woman shows her caring spirit by telling the MC a blunt truth - she’s “headed to damnation”. That may sound blunt, but coming from someone who “walks what she talks”, even after a terrible loss in her own life, I found this quite profound. (Sometimes we need blunt.) She then explains the gospel succinctly, which is the seed that eventually blossoms for this young girl to turn her life over to Christ.
As in real life, when she makes that decision, not everything is “fixed” for her. She still has the same inner and outer battles, but she gets strength through God’s love instead of the destructive behaviour she leaned on before.
This story is raw and real, but in its reality I feel it speaks to younger people about what’s really important, and Who can offer hope and peace even after horrific experiences.
I admire an author who doesn’t shy away from the realities in our world today. It’s certainly not getting any easier for our youth.
Having said that, if your young teen picks up this book, I would suggest taking a perusal of it first (due to some graphic sexual content).
I’m guessing this will stir up some interesting conversations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what a Young Adult novel should be
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 18, 2023
This is the first book I’ve read by Maria and it won’t be the last. Not Again is exactly what a young adult novel should be – it’s edgy and deals with real issues. We meet Christina when she is an innocent, fun-loving thirteen-year-old but her life is turned upside down when she is sexually assaulted by a neighbour. Unable to tell anyone what happened, Christina withdraws into self-harm and hiding in her room or helping at a nearby care home. One of my favourite characters in this book is Miss Brenda, who works at the care home. Miss Brenda loves Christina and teaches her about faith. As a new school term looms, Christina begins spending time with friends again, including her new boyfriend, Avery. With friends surrounding her and growing in her new faith, she begins to deal with the trauma of the attack.
