This book was first published in 1931. John O' Hara Cosgrave was then a member of the New York Orage-Group studying the teachings of G. I. Gurdjieff. I think the book was a product of a task Orage once gave to this group, to formulate in written words what they have learned about the teaching, especially what they have understood about Gurdjieff's own Book "Beelzebub's Tales". So this book can be seen as a supplement to Beelzebub's Tales. But "The Academy for Souls" is also a book in its own right, it has vigor and it is transmitting an aspiration to realize our position and potential as human beings in the scheme of things.
