In His Arms by Joey W. Hill was such a powerful and engaging story...Rory the hero in this story is in a wheelchair and Daralyn is a young woman with a truly horrific past.In His Arms has Rory getting his life on track after the accident that put him in a wheelchair and altered what he saw as his future.Daralyn and Rory's life's are intertwined and this adds to the attraction more than anything else each brings to the table.I adored how the author made it very clear when each character got out of the Dom/sub dynamic. And even more than that Hill does an amazing job with Rory being wheelchair-bound both as it related to his mobility and his sexuality. The author ensures the reader understands his desires, his needs and what his body is able to do; this real feel allows the reader to become truly vested in this story!Rory and Daralyn craft a happy so very perfect for them... one comes as the reader joins them on a journey to discover the dynamic that works for their future.I love Roy's brother Thomas and his husband Marcus, I now plan to read their path to happy in Rough Canvas.Denise is read this STANDALONE and had no issues understanding and devouring the story!

Hands-down, my all time favourite romance is a gut-wrenching tale titled "Rough Canvas". Tied with it for all-time favourite is another little soul-searing tome titled "Mirror of My Soul". Both were penned by Ms. Hill and both made me a forever-fan. Not for the romance per se, but for the expert weaving of unforgiving life being navigated by flawed characters just trying to...be; to even want to be.

Rory figured quite prominently in one of these perfect tales and less so in the other, but he began as one of those characters you loved to hate. He was a jerk, and almost entirely unlikeable. Until he wasn't. But until "In HIs Arms", I didn't appreciate his struggle to just be the best Rory he could be. To accept, and to grow for himself, not because of life's changes. But his new normal would always be just that much more difficult than the difficulties life handed to most. Daralyn was a relatively minor secondary character who added an element of drama to the already complex family but while her issues were hinted at, they were never key.

But leave it to Ms. Hill to take these two characters from the earlier books and weave yet another heart-breaking and at the same time, heart-affirming reading experience. Emotionally, this was a bit from Rough Canvas and a bit from Mirror of My Soul while still being its own tale. It is rich, and it is profound and can be forgiven for being a bit narrative-heavy at the start, because in the way of a Michener book, you need to take that narrative and fold it into the experience. It obviates any gaps and leaves you free to endure the experiences with these remarkable characters, and with them you are.

This is not an on-the-sidelines book. Just like its predecessors, this one reaches your soul.

In His Arms from The Nature of Desire series by Joey W. Hill completely captivated me. A remarkable story about two damaged people; one physically and one psychologically who find healing in love and acceptance. A love story that is deeply emotional and at times both heartbreaking and heartwarming not to mention tear inducing. Also Ms. Hill's incredibly detailed insights into what it's like to be wheelchair bound added a another dimension to this story.

Rory's need to care and protect Daralyn has the Dom in him roaring to life in full force. But, learning to be the Dominant that Daralyn needs is like tring to navigate a field filled with tripwires, IEDs and landmines. Her upbringing was filled with abuse and neglect. She had no freewill or choices. Rory is determined to teach her how to live her best life even if it means letting her go. Daralyn recognizes the love she has for Rory but putting those feelings into words and feeling worthy enough to say them is another matter entirely.

    Where do I begin.
In His Arms pushes all the limits of every emotion you could imagine.
Rory and Daralyn are 2 characters you won't easily forget.
They both have major obstacles to rise above in their lives
One of the things I liked about the book was the way the author explained the many challenges a disabled person faces every day whether physically or emotionally.
Rory and Daralyn both face them but the way they handle them makes the book the best.
There are plenty of old favorite characters from prior stories that you get an update on, which is one thing I love with this author's books.
Family and friends are all there to lend a hand to the two lovers and to offer all the support they could need. The book brings forth a wonderful story line, you won't be sorry you bought In His Arms. My hat is off to Joey Hill, well done.

Both main characters have serious issues and JWH writes them with such reality it almost hurts to read. Many romances don't get into the reality of recovery but that very grittiness makes the final HEA much more earned and believable. Rory is confined in his body while Daralyn is confined in her mind.

The research she did to show what it is really like for someone confined to a wheelchair told me more than I ever knew of the issues that life has. You can feel the yearning when Rory wishes he just didn't have to deal with it any more. Both Rory and Daralyn have to confront their own devils in order to heal and then help each other.

I can hardly enthuse enough about the care that Joey obviously took in researching and writing this novel. It's a little different from her other stories in the Nature of Desire series, since she's writing about a paraplegic hero, and an untrained Dom at that. The damaged hero/heroine is not a new trope in Joey W. Hill's series' -- most of her work features characters who are dealing with past trauma of some sort, and their journey to healing and true happiness. Though triggers may exist for some in reading this book, I feel the friendship and eventual romantic relationship between Rory and Daralyn is handled skillfully and with sensitivity, in a more natural, real-life sort of progression from fear to love and confidence. Bravo, Joey!

As always, Joey never disappoints. I've read her books forever, and not one has ever let me down. The emotional roller coaster her writting takes me on is a welcome one. Rory and Daralyn's story hit a little closer to home than I was expecting, but knowing and trusting Joey's writting, I stuck with it knowing it would be worth my while, and like always, she did not disappoint. She is able to delve into a character's soul and help you to see them as easily as if you were right there with them. Granted, I am "part of the choir" when it comes to Joey's work, but I can't sing her praises enough. You simply have to read just one of her books to become as big an admirer/addict as me. Rory and Daralyn are everyday people who are able to overcome some large stumbling personal road blocks that might permanently stop some people, but trust Joey to bring them through it. I never feel her writting is repeative or predictable. She gets to my heart, my soul, every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely beautiful!

Every one of Joey's book is a treasure trove of emotions, passion, friendship and love on so many different levels. Rory and Daralyn are both wonderful, damaged, warm characters whose budding D/s relationship is filled with potential red flags and flash points needing both compassion and patience.
Having other favourites from the Nature of a Desire series is a huge bonus. I loved spending time with Marcus, Thomas, Julie and Des and, be still my beating heart, Tyler and Marguerite. This all adds to the weave of this complex, deeply charged story which takes you through so many emotional states and reactions. My heart was in my mouth at times and, as always with Joey's books, I felt the emotions of the characters in my own heart and fell completely in love with them.
Joey always brings you the beauty of the human heart and I love her for it. She writes hope. 💖💖💖💖💖

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book from Joey W Hill
Reviewed in Australia on October 23, 2020
Joey W Hill never disappoints. Here she has created main characters who have faced difficult circumstances that thankfully most of us will never have to deal with, and has given us a believable and compelling story. Hill's research into how life is lived by a wheelchair user shows, as Rory faces and overcomes many obstacles that are real and pertinent.
Rory and Daralyn show vulnerability and strength in equal measures as their relationship grows.
I enjoyed encountering some of the characters from previous books, especially Thomas and Marcus. A very satisfying read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it - just brilliant.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 27, 2020
I have read all the books in this series - all are well written with great characters and storylines. ‘ In Hi Arms ‘ maintained the high standards but with something much more. It gave me an insight into personal circumstances I have never come into contact with in my life (I am 63). Joey’s style of writing was enlightening and informative without being ‘instructional’ - I loved the characters and was humbled by the storyline. Could be read as a stand alone but you will get more enjoyment if you have read the series first and get to know some of the characters and events that lead you into this book.
