I am getting closer to releasing the printed version of my book Midnight's Chicken.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YW3JX4A

Naturally the cover and the content are going through some changes.
When you look at my Kindle version for the first time--the cover, blurb, and Look Inside--do you find them interesting enough to draw you in?
I am trying to follow almost the same cover theme for the print version.
Any suggestions for improvements in those areas are appreciated.
Btw, once I submit the final version for print on CreateSpace, am I allowed to change anything in the future if necessary?

Thank you so much in advance. There are some exceptionally helpful people on this forum.
Regards
C

Alas it just confuses me.

The blurb, the cover, the sub-heading and even the first story inside confuses me.

Sorry. :0/

I would never say "I'm not a professional writer." That might have been charming in 2010 but not today. The cover, blurb, genre, and first story was a bit confusing to me. What are your friends or followers on social media saying?

Do you have permission to use the Foghorn Leghorn image?

The cover is a mess. Your author name is confusing-I thought it was a title.

Your pitch needs work.

There's no hook to draw the reader in.

Who is the MC and why should I care?

You need to learn the craft and be a professional if you're going to charge people for your work.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Please keep them coming.
My friends know me way too well so they can tell straight away what this book is about. That's why I am asking a group of complete strangers who look at it for the first time.
I will take every suggestion and criticism into consideration and make necessary changes.
This is my first book and I'm still learning.
Thanks again.

What do they say the book is about? That's the message you need to communicate to complete strangers. New readers aren't going to muddle through and try and figure it out. If it's satire, that needs to be strongly communicated.

I completely agree. I thought I was clear about the satirical nature of the book but apparently not. I am going through changes and hope to make it better. Thank you for your feedback.

Being a traveler myself, your story intrigues me. However, to provoke someone is asking for a negative reaction, I believe. The cover needs some work, and yes, you cannot use Foghorn Leghorn's image legally without written permission.

Dear author
You first need to ditch the four five star reviews. They scream phony. Four bunched together reviews talking the same thing basically in the same way and all of whom have only purchased one thing, your book. Okay, if you say so. Your ranking is languishing at a million and a half. So sales are toast. I would not bother releasing paperbacks of a book that is not selling. Why, why why would you want to do that?
As others have said, your cover, blurb and style lacks clarity. No one really knows what the heck your book is about, so what they are really saying by not buying, is 'who cares?'
Don't be obsessed with the book you have written. You are a good writer and have lots of things to say. If you like humor than write a humor book that readers want to buy. Forget about shoving a book down readers throats that they don't want. Force feeding only works if you do it for free and what is the point of that?
If I were you I would spend a few days searching zon and looking for humorous books that are written by newbie indies with great sales, not best seller authors and see how those authors made it happen. Then copy the style and the plot structure and use similar covers and blurbs.
Tried and true is the way to get some traction, and the beauty of that is, that once they like your new stuff, they will start to be all over your old stuff, hence the book you have now will take off too.
If you want to attract readers then you have to lure them in with what they are looking for, not what you are peddling.

Thanks. Appreciate your feedback. Contrary to what you assume I had plenty of sales when I released it last year, especially in Germany. I took the book off the shelf last several months because I wanted to release a much improved version in both formats--hence the low ranking. Like any other first time author, I am also learning as I go along.
Cheers
