I just spent at FORTY minutes deleting s*p*a*m out of this 'General Questions' forum and it made me wonder – IF the system cannot catch it, how can we be assured that all sales and page reads are credited and done so correctly?

I batted away a couple of dozen yesterday. Then this morning I looked at the forum and virtually the whole of the front page was filled with this rubbish and I couldn't face doing it all again. So thank you. :)
A simple change where every new user's first post was automatically referred to the mods would kill it at a stroke.

A captcha at signup would be even better (and far less work), since these are all spambots anyway. Some of us have suggested it, but don't hold your breath.

Meanwhile, words like char*acter and des*cription will get modded...

The actual question was: IF the system cannot catch it, how can we be assured that all sales and page reads are credited and done so correctly?

Thanks for the insights!

I have some faith in sales being recorded correctly, because those are quantifiable transactions with an electronic trail that can be audited if necessary (credit card records, etc.).

I have very little faith in KENP records. Those are essentially pulled out of a black box.

But, ultimately, it all comes down to faith. Not unlike a religion, I suppose.
