I put my six books up on smashwords yesterday. Everyone of them are in review so I assume they are not going to be distributed until they pass that review process.

However, I've had 120 downloads of the first book that is free and have sold five of the other books. Is this normal? I thought I could only sell them after they pass review.

I believe you can sell while in review directly from smashwords I think the review process only applies to premium distribution for B&N etc. I may be wrong but I think this is the case.

Steven, Steven, and Steven are correct. The review process is just to get on the premium distribution list and shipped to other retailers.

My experience with Smashwords is that once you're approved for Premium Distribution and you have passed EPUB your book is automtically distributed to all platforms--except Amazon. I waited for two weeks to get onto Amazon before I just put it on myself. Then it went thru just fine.

You guys are a hoot. I don't know if five books is normal for the first day but it's more than I sold on Barnes and Noble in two weeks. Maybe it's a good thing I put them there.

You did it exactly right. You put one on free and it sells the others. Bravo, it takes some of a lot longer to figure that out.

Hi Traci,
According to Mark himself, if you expect to live on SW sales you'll end up in the poorhouse pretty quickly since most of their sales are to other authors. The great thing about SW though, is that they distribute to other retailers such as Sony, apple, etc.
As for myself, I've had a bit of success with direct SW sales, fifty-three in the past years, so I can't really complain because I direct with Amazon and had also switched to B&N three months ago.

How cool would it be if B & N sales paralleled Amazon's? I might average just 40 per month on Nook (and that's a good month).

Canton...40 per month at barnes and noble is pretty good for me too...though my highest month was 170! : )

Aaron...fortunately I plan to live on my husband's salary, lol. ; ) I do okay at Kindle though. And money is money so I won't knock the few sales that trickle in through Smashwards distribution!
