I received my report of July sales today, and the data is a mere fraction of what my MTD sales were showing. Has anyone else received a completely incomplete report for July?

I just looked at the report again and it is broken into 3 sections with the following dates next to them:

05/01/2009
03/01/2009
02/01/2009

WTF DTP?

My MTD report has not shown anything since the 2nd day my book was published. I published on the last day of June and immediately registered one sale within the hour. Even though my ranking has gone up, no sales have been recorded since that first one.

My July Transaction report only shows that one sale...so while I believe it is all wrong, it does match what my MTD report was showing...which was also wrong.

Hi there,
I hope you guys can help me out. I am new to publishing with the Kindle, and so this is the first time I have had a MTD report show up under My Reports.

The problem is that I'm not sure how to view it. I click on the link, and a tiny box appears saying it is transferring, but then the box disappears, and nothing happens. No download box to ask where I'd like to download a file to, no opening of Excel or word. Just nothing.

Can you tell me how I can view this file, or if it DID download onto my computer, where it is now?

Thanks,

John

Hello!

We had some system issues on August 4th that caused delays in updating your year to date payment reports. As of Aug 6th, these issues have been addressed and your reports should be up to date. Please note that your payments were not affected by this issue. We would like to apologize to our authors & publishers for the inconvenience.

Thanks for your patience in this matter.

My July 2009 report is still completely incorrect. I've emailed DTP admin with more info.

Hi John,

I can't tell you where it went but I can tell you what my computer does. When I click the link it automatically it opens up in an Excel Spreadsheet after about 45 seconds.

Have you tried opening it on a different computer?

You also need to make sure that you have a spreadsheet program (like Excel, OpenOffice, or Numbers for Mac) installed... :-)

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks guys,

Nothing new opens up. But I found that if I RIGHT click on the link and choose "Open in new tab" then it shows me the spreadsheet.

Appreciate the help.

I just checked my July report and it is over 1000 copies short of what my book sold that month. I sent an email to DTP. I hope you guys fix this.

DTP Admin finally responded to my email from last week about the July Report. Even though my rank was changing on a regular basis...getting better on a regular basis, they stated I had only one sale...which was the only sale the report showed that was recorded in the first hours after I published my book.

Question for anyone with experience on DTP: Can one sale change ranking from about 160,000 to about 40,000?

I had the same issue. I began mid July. After a few sales....nothing. Then one day my rank went from 80,000 to 20,000 something. This was end July or early August. During this time I could not get the previous month's sales or current. When finally previous was available it showed nothing new. And August says I have sold nothing. I wrote and asked and amazon responded with a breakdown of the July sales and said that's all I have. I don't see how ranking could change so dramatically all of a sudden based on other's sales.

I am stunned by the number of problems I read about here.

I know they say they capture all. I remain unconvinced. This has been a sad experience. I wish I had taken a screen shot of the day the ranking went down so dramatically.

This is only a personal observation of my own books bouncing up and down in the rankings, but I'd say that if your book went from 160K to 40K, you almost certainly had at least one sale. And if your book wound up anywhere in the 20K or higher range, you almost certainly had a sale.

I'm facing a similar issue with my books that are distributed to the Kindle store from Mobipocket. The administrative/payment end of things is handled through vendor central, which indicates I haven't had any sales since May. But the sales ranks of the books have at least periodically bounced up above 20K. I don't know if they're somehow linked to the DTP versions that I can verify are selling (although the numbers are usually significantly different), or what.

But yes, the bugs and reporting issues we've had to deal with don't instill a great sense of confidence in the reports.

Lastly, this is the best explanation of sales rankings that I've been able to find so far: http://www.rampant-books.com/mgt_amazon_sales_rank.htm

Cheers,
Mike

I published one of my books the first week in July...and sold, in July, about 7 copies. Then in August...it went from "LIVE" to "READY" and I had to re-publish it again. I lost ALL of my July sales (at least that's what my report says). Is there anyway to contact someone at AMAZON.COM who can rectify this problem?
