i AM IN TEARS! I called and talked yesterday to Author Central-was promised an answer today. There is no response.

My book is "The Secret Life of Captain X: My Life with a Psychopath Pilot" I check my page daily. Yesterday, under the star graph rating, in a box Amazon put :

Rated by customers interested in What's this?
History
5.0 out of 5 stars
5.0 out of 5 stars

MY BOOK HAS "NOTHING" TO DO WITH HISTORY NOR ARE MY READERS interesed in history!! "IT IS A Memoir & PSYCHOLOGY BOOK RELATING TO RELATIONSHIPS! "READ THE BOOK. READ MY REVIEWS! READ WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH!" When some thinks of buying my book with that statement there "HISTORY" they will NOT BUY IT! It is has nothing whatsoever to do with "HISTORY!" I am so upset- WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO MY PAGE? Do you not want me to sell books. Do you have books on knitting listed as sci-fi? I am beyond upset. I am what Amazon was built on- the brick and mortar. I bought about 60-100 books on my other account to write this book which is on RELATIONSHIPS, PSYCHOLOGY, ABUSE. I have been through enough ABUSE and now my book seller Amazon put my book listed MY book in the wrong listing csusing me yet more abuse! GET THAT OFF MY PAGE! I beg you to make my case a priority. PLEASE do not say that an algorythm picked up history. The readers of "The Secret Life of Captain X: My Life with a Psychopath Pilot" are either abused women or men , psychologists or people going through a divorce. READ MY PAGE. READ MY REVIEWS. READ MY BOOK!

TAKE THAT DOWN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS IT DOES NOT RELATE TO MY BOOK & DISCOURAGES BUYERS! I will persue my quest to get the phrase "History" of my page!
Do not abuse my page, my book or me. I have had enough abuse!

None of us work for Amazon. We're authors, just like you. If you need to contact Amazon, click the tiny "contact" link at the bottom of the page.

Bottom right of THIS one, for example. The "help" you receive may be hard to find and slow to arrive. That's been my experience.

Good luck and don't give up.

I've always gotten a helpful response within 24 hours. Of course, the OP might want to stop shouting. People tend to be more inclined to help if they're not being shouted at.

LOL. Authors are passionate people. She's freaking out. I think if she lets her book do its thing, it will land in the correct niche. Best not to argue with the bots. Their aim is to sell our books. They scan them and make that decision.

I don't have the section she's talking about on my book pages, and I don't see it on hers, either.

Rated by customers interested in What's this?
History
5.0 out of 5 stars
5.0 out of 5 stars

I wonder if it's something in beta? I'm assuming the "What's this" is a link explaining that section. Wish I could see one; now I'm curious! At any rate, it doesn't sound as if Amazon is forcing her book into the history category; it sounds as if actual customers who've bought her book also like history (in which case her angst is all for naught). Her book categories are Partner Abuse, Dysfunctional Relationships, and Memoirs.

I've had to contact KDP help a few times recently & have been super impressed with the help.
1 of my books didn't show enough of the 'Look Inside', I received a reply very quickly offering to increase the size, I had it increased by 5% (my choice, 5% - 45% was offered), the 5% wasn't enough so I had it increased by another 5%, each reply came by the following day & was dealt with efficiently, no stock answers & the problem was dealt with quicker than their estimated time frame.

Then I was told in the forum to make an Author Page but I already had one in my full name, rather than the name that's on the majority of my books, I wrote to ask for a name change on Author Central & was told that it would take 2-3 days, It was actually done in a few hours.

I wasn't expecting such quick & helpful 'help' due to reading in the past that they're generally not very helpful.
My experience has been to be impressed by them. :)

There's a screen capture of it in this kboards disscusion:

I was thinking the same thing - it sounds like if people identify as having certain interests and rate a book it will show up here but I don't see why it would hurt sales if people outside the target market take an interest. If I had 94 reviews and a 4.8 rating I wouldn't be in tears.

Actually - as a customer buying a book I wouldn't take much interest in this but as an author I would find it really helpful. If I were to learn people with an interest I didn't expect are giving my book high ratings I might make an effort to reach more people in that group.

Calm down, get a grip. The page does not belong to you, but Amazon. Check your contract. Amazon will put whatever adverts, promos or info they feel is of use or interest to readers. Amazon do not need or want your input regarding customer metrics. Possibly, your readers have more going for them than you give them credit for. Possibly they have even read a book beyond yours. What, they can't have an interest in life beyond what you dictate? If you cannot handle a modest assist for browsing customers, please stay away from the sponsored adverts for (among other things) Vagabonds in France, Super Herpes, Jackie Kennedy Onassis: A Biography and African American History as they might cause a blown gasket. And please do stop shrieking at people.

BTW, It's not abuse, it's business.

Okay, so Amazon evidently goofed on categorizing your book as "history." But it seems to me that's besides the point of all the five-star reviews you've received. The book's synopsis speaks for itself. I doubt if anyone takes a "look inside" with the expectation of encountering a work of history. By all means, keep after Amazon to relabel your book's category. But in the meantime, relax.

I copied those from your product page. Those entries are based on the metadata you entered in your book's record and they certainly seem accurate to me.

What you're describing is based on what customers who look at your book have also looked at or searched for. That information is collected and posted by a bot, not a human. One of my mysteries is called Charlie's Bones. There is almost always a line or two on my product page saying customers who looked at my book are also interested in the Charlie Bones children's books. The similarity of the names means Charlie's Bones and Charlie Bones will often come up in the same search and people looking for one might click on the other, either out of curiosity or by mistake.

It sounds to me that some customers who also search for books about history happened to look at your book and gave it 5 stars. I'd be thrilled if I had that message on my page and it said people who like children's books also think my books are worth 5 stars. You may have noticed that you get Amazon ads for books in categories that you don't read; that means you looked at books in another category, maybe just browsing. I'm not a big Sci Fi reader but I get ads for science fiction books because I've looked at Sci Fi books by people on the forums. There is a chance that your book is mentioned on a "customers also like" list on some books about history, and some of those readers might read more than one type of book and may decide to take a look at yours.
