I keep reading about the hassle of trying to self-publish print versions of your book on IngramSpark to gain access to a broader distribution. The guide is pretty intimidating. And, I don't have the skill or correct program to modify and properly format a cover.

Does anyone know of an independent service who charges a flat fee that you can send them your cover file, manuscript, and ISBN and they will put everything in order and put it on IngramSpark for you?

Seems like someone with skill in using IS could make a little money doing this and it would save me from having homicidal thoughts if I try it myself.

Thanks!

Of course there are, but I can't assess your idea of "a little money" versus what services charge. Moreover, 99% of them won't put it ON IS (or CS or any other place) for you, because it's flat-out against their T&C. I've put a PDF and eBooks on IS for people, and you know what? It's not the 5-minute upload that it is at the KDP. PLUS, unlike Createspace--and I don't know if you realize this--you have to have the entire book laid out, in PDF format. You can't just upload some Word file, and Bob's-yer-uncle.

I'm trying to genuinely answer you, rather than solicit you, but if your book is simple (fiction or simple non-fiction) my business does do print layouts and we have a bunch of books that have gone to IS. You may contact me if you wish. Alternatively or additionally, google "print layout services" and "print book layout services," and then check with those businesses to see if they will accommodate your request for uploading services.

You might browse Kboards Writers Forum (unlike these KDP forums, it tends to be populated by fairly successful, happy people) for information about IngramSpark. It is indeed more challenging than CreateSpace (and more expensive), but is your only serious choice if you want to get into bookstores. Not everyone shops online. (I've not done it. I'm happy with CS.)

But you need a PDF everywhere, or you'll look like a frightful amateur.

And when it comes to the cover, you really should hire a graphic artist to design it and lay it out. It's very unlikely that you're an excellent writer AND an excellent graphic artist.

Good luck! -- NJ

That would be "a little money" as in a flat fee of X hundred dollars rather than a publisher's split of the sales.

The print book is currently on sale on Amazon and I had the cover created, let's say it was semi-professionally in that it was created by an artist in a full version of Photoshop.

I expect the cover to need some size adjustment for fit properly in IngramSpark (from what I read it is not going to be the same as my 5.25" x 8" version and I would need a different size for getting onto bookstore shelves anyway. - possibly two sizes if I want a hardback and paperback version.)

I also need the word version converted to the proper PDF format (I read something that said you can't just save the document as a PDF and it will work).

My book is SciFi / Fantasy (Superhero) - Nova Academy (would put link on it, but stupid must be approved by moderator came up)

There are various graphic artists on Fiverr.com who do these sorts of things for a reasonable fee, but make sure you check their reviews first! They won't upload it for you, though (that part isn't so bad, anyway, it's all the other stuff!) You just need to work your way through their forms and such, which is more time consuming and annoying, but not totally awful.

IS is definitely more work and more $$ than CS. I do it myself, and ease my way into each new book by starting with a Createspace proof copy, making sure that the cover and interior are what I want them to be. Then I upload the final files to IS.

So if you're familiar with CS, you can convert your Word doc (or whatever format you use for CS) into a PDF and upload that to IS. From there you can get a cover template from IS. If you're not doing your own covers, you can give this to whomever does your cover designs, as any decent graphic artist will be able to do both your CS and IS covers.
