Since the start of February and probably since January, sales seem to be showing in fits and starts. Nothing for a couple of days and then the figures jump upwards. Is that a correct perception or is it just me?

You are correct. Fits and spurts is what I refer to as 'reports'
now.

I'm having that problem, too. Some days, my sales will be steady throughout the day. Other days, I'll be disheartened by not having a single sale, only to have them all pop up at once in the middle of the night.

I suffered the phenomenon of 50 "sales" from a free promo from four days prior popping up all of a sudden and was very saddened to learn they weren't real. Haha. The good news is that 4 of those 50 were real sales! =D

I know when I published my first book, almost a year ago, sales where updated every 24 hours. But since before Christmas they seemed to be live sales reports... which is now down to live every now and then depending on when Amazon wind their old laptop up!

I think we all agree that we authors are fragile creatures and need our egos rubbed with sales juice on a regular basis.

This is doing my head in, My sales appear bad so I fall into a depression and either sit there staring miserably at the screen or playing solitaire. I then read the forums and discover that it might be due to a glitch so, full of renewed enthusiasm I pen a page or two. I then have a little surge of sales and write a chapter or two followed very quickly by another bad day when I'm back to playing solitaire. I know it would be easier to stop checking the reports but I don't have that level of will power

My wife thinks I'm nuts. I check the sales figures last thing at night and first thing in the morning... and several times during the day.

I need to discipline myself to write more and check less.

I thought I was the only one checking every two minutes. Silly.

Tom, I do the same thing and my husband thinks the same of me. Last thing at night and first thing in the morning I check (well right after feeding our dog). I mean I'm not completely nuts.

I think we must be a little nutty, Patti.

Never had this in Charles Dickens' day... bet it took him months to find out his sales. Think of how frustrating that must have been!

Something like that happened to me. My new book showed as #100,000 something or other in paid sales. I checked and it reported 3 sales. Then the book page said it had gone to 53,000 again only 3 sales, then it was 63K but still the same 3 sales.

I wonder how this works.

My sales have gone awol in USA...a big fat nothing for about 5 days now. UK sales toddling along quite nicely, though.

I can't get my head around the stats either. i'm above another author in the general rankings at 3000 something, but when I look on the specific genre rankings the other author is ranked at about 350 and I'm not in the top 1000? Very odd. Ho-hum :-)
