If EVERYONE would delete out a spam or two when you see it, it would make things easier for everyone.

To delete a spam message, click on the yellow triangle in the upper right area of the message.
You will then see a drop-down menu. Usually, the 'spam' choice is correct.
Click on that choice and then send it.
The 'spam' message will delete.

I don't know if it's because I've been flagging the spam today or not, but in the last hour or so the response on the forums has (for me) gone into the ash-can. It can take a full minute for a screen to return. If the slow-down applies to everyone, and not just me, it means the spam can arrive faster than we can blip it.

I have a problem even getting to different messages when I am logged in. I figured out a while back that if I check messages not logged in, then login to do a reply or delete a spam message, do the spam delete, then click on the arrow to go backwards, I can get to the next spam fast. I continue doing that until I get confused with how many are left (LOL). So, hitting the main forum title clears up my confusion. I log out and then back to checking forums.

I've begun using the back-arrow myself. It refreshes the screen with what the browser has in cache and will work for the most part.

Of course, as you say, periodically you do have to ask for a real re-load of current threads and thread-statuses, or you lose track.

A writer has been seriously abusing the "do not spam us fellow writers" rule, to the extent of spamming in multiple fora and even in the foreign-language fora.

IMO, it's no longer worth engaging the individual--he's not getting the message. Just report the posts as spam.

Evening Joseph,

I would (dare to) correct you and say that we now have two human spammers intent on annoying the community, but it seems the original culprit (Senor Amador) may have actually gotten himself banned, as I can't find any trace of him whatsoever. I think that came about after he bombarded the community with messages three days on the trot, telling us all about his 'Eyes of God! and asking us to 'Back him up!' and buy his books. He previously had a page which directed you to his FB page, but that seems to have gone altogether. As you may have noticed, he irritated the hell out of me! :(

We now have a second one, a Ms Garcia. I think you were one of the first to call her out the other day for shamelessly promoting her website/blog. I've posted several messages to her, asking her politely to get lost, but her posts disappear (possibly reported as spam by herself or others), and then she comes back with more.

She's like one of those people who stands on the edge of a group at a dinner party, totally clueless as to the topic of conversation, who frequently mutters 'I though that, too!' She's resurrecting old posts to make comments like 'Very interesting post. Thank you.' She actually advised one OP to 'Get in touch with Admin'. Seriously? 'Admin'? I'm surprised she didn't tell the OP to ring them!

My irritation with her is multiplied tenfold by the fact that she uses a closing parenthesis instead of a full stop, thus) Sometimes several))) What the hell is that about?

I have every intention of responding to every attempt she makes to promote herself, until she either goes away, or embraces the spirit of the community, and shows it the respect it deserves.

Sorry, rant over! I think I need to go and lie down in a darkened room to calm down.

Donna,

Keep 'bumping up'. You're doing a great job. Thank you. I'm trying to do my bit, but there are so many others who could be helping.

Just saying. J

I think it was someone else who chastised the Garcia poster, not me. I made the mistake of not using a nom de fora when I signed up here, so I'm not quite as free to express opinions without fear of retribution. But I'd used a nom for most of my past writing and I'd just gotten tired of the practice. Ah, well.

This is the only place I have any social media presence using this name. :)

I'm not a rude person by nature, but some of these posters push me way beyond my 'I'll smile at you if it kills me' zone.

That's why I miss Ward so much. He'd earned the right to 'tell it how it is' through longevity if nothing else.

I have thought about posting flyers on lamp posts in every village in the UK, asking, nay, begging him to come back. But apparently there are about 4500 of them.

If he hasn't come back of his own accord, maybe I'll think about doing it in the spring, when the weather starts to get better. ;)

Best wishes. J

Is there any difference between reporting spam as general abuse or taking the extra step of labeling it spam on the drop down menu?

For the most part, I don't take the time to hit the drop-down to mark it spam. I will do that if the spam is subtle, or if it's a fake post to test a bogus sign-on, just to be sure that any live KDP support person who sees the flagged post and who hasn't had their morning java yet doesn't get confused.

I know. I tend to keep the forums up late at night and it is never ending then too.
