(1) I'm thinking of writing a book in the next week/month/year/whenever. What genre should I choose to make the most money?

(2) review my book and I'll review yours (omit to mention that I'll get lots of lovely reviews, you will each only receive one)

Wow! I'm a nubie.. I hope that I don't get thrown into the 'most annoying questions' category. I just want to know "For ebooks what is the best font that I should use on my word doc before I began to publish?" Book Critiques Please let me know if that's an annoying question? Just want to be sure what a good or bad question should look like.

Very good points. Often, I look at the specific number of postings on the part of the commenter. Frequently, they are "newbies" but that doesn't totally mitigate the irritation of seeing the "same old, same old", questions day after day. I've taken a lot of heat on this Forum for reaching out and net working through a variety of topics.

Granted my writing style is hard boiled. Combine that self evident truth with how easily the Libs are offended (they are devoid of humor), therein a modicum of friction always develops. Just yesterday I contributed a short expose on the ubiquitous "Lie Detector" test. I don't expect many other writer's to offer an explanation regarding other eclectic subjects. My over-all goal on these threads has always been to remain positive but tough, in spite of vicious attacks from the Left. Peace.

@angelbhope This is not an annoying question. It's a good one, and there probably isn't going to be just one correct answer. I use Times New Roman size 12 font because this was the industry standard back when I was publishing mainstream. For all questions that you might have on what format your book should have, hit your local bookstore and pick up this year's writers' market or any one of their 'how to write/publish a novel'. It'll tell you everything you need to know from justification, to paragraph indentation, and some even give a refresher course on punctuation (invaluable to me, since I slept through English in high school).

For the OP:

#1 When will I get paid for February sales?
#2 Why are my sales being discounted to 35%? I signed up for 70%! This is unacceptable!

Yep. You've asked another "most common" question. Basically the jury is still out on preference. I submit my books in Verdana 14 because they seem to upload well, both clear and concise sans any rejection. Many other writer's prefer Times Roman in 12. That would be my second choice. That being a given, at least you didn't ask why your sales are slow because you up-loaded five minutes ago. Cheers!

That's an interesting observation. I had thought that some posters changed monikers so that they could "hit an run" with abandon. That's how I identify the hustlers working for the legacy publishers to badmouth Amazon. Please tell me if you find a correlation between the posters that disdain KDP Select and a plethora of I.D. tags?

The standout annoyances for me:

1. Anything to do with review swapping. Almost anything to do with reviews, except when a poor soul with an actual book gets a 1-star.

2. Anything to do with tagging books. Most of this seems to have disappeared recently.

3. People using these forums to market under the guise of asking a question or seeking help with an actual publishing issue.

4. The account is banned/terminated questions when the "books" in question are resell rights crap.

I do not think giving books away is a good idea, and I certainly do not work for anyone but myself, having been self-employed all my life. That is not to say I am angry with anyone who does give their books away or sells them for 99 cents. I just think it is a mistake, as I have managed to do well without any of those desperate methods.

As for politics, I am probably more to the Right than you. I believe you have to be a psychopath to not even feel guilty when voting for the government to rob your neighbors, just because working for a living it too much trouble.

I am quite certain we all asked stupid questions when we first came to this board for help. I know I did.

Striving for excellence in self-published books helps us all look better. Belittling people, who in your opinion, ask a stupid question, will not help us reach that goal.

I agree with you, I look back and see some pretty dumb (to me now) questions that I first asked. Glad I didn't get jeered at then or probably wouldn't have continued to write or post on here.
