According to the FAQs (and the selection available when creating a new title) the currently supported languages are English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portugese, but I have seen a number of titles on the Kindle store that have 'Indonesian' as the set language, and include (Indonesian edition) in the title. We have a number of titles that have been translated into Indonesian, and would like to make them available on the Kindle store, but there doesn't seem to be any way to set the language to Indonesian in the KDP setup process?
Amazon has published books in many languages in the past, either because they were once support or because they simply slipped through. Lately it has been removing these books from the catalog. We've heard complaints here in the past month alone from publishers of Polish- and another language books to that effect. So I don't think it's a terribly good idea to invest much effort into the project you mention.
I published my e-book through Amazon, it was selling. Then I wanted to change some things and I received an e-mail saying that Romanian is not a supported language. And they did not take it out, but did not let me change a thing. Imagine all the marketing effort for nothing!
So I had to take a decision and moved it to another publisher who accepts Romanian, no problem.
With all these, there are books in Romanian on the website and I don't really get it. Maybe in the past Romanian was a supported language and Amazon changed the rules. So...luckily I can translate it in English and this problem will be solved. But it will take me a lot...I mean a lot....
I really hope they will change these rules. Not fair...in my opinion. But I guess I can't see the big picture...still, I would like to be explained: look, we don't support Romanian because we don't have the staff to triage the books, to review them etc. I don't understand what "support" really means. Do you?
