Hmm..I've made about 20 sales on the book in the US over the past 12 hours. Is that really enough to stay at #1 in the children's ebook categories above ???

yes. If you had 20 sales every 12 hours for a few weeks you would be in the top 1000 total kindle books sold (or maybe top 1500, you get the idea.)

Did the directions they gave you the first time relate to tags, categories, or something else? Does the email trigger Amazon to actually move the book?

We each get to genres so when I asked them if I could be in a different one (It does have to be one that exists) they gave me directions on how to leave a spot open for it and then they manually entered it.

I don't know much about being in the top overall 100, but I'm at #796 on Amazon.com and have had about 110 sales over the last 24 hours. I'm #1 in Kindle children's ebooks, and #13, #21 and #16 in three fantasy categories. Interestingly the #1 category is not displayed on my product page!
