Hi - self promotion on this site - I have done it many times.
I suppose if a fellow author read my post and pases it on to a friend - it maybe works.
Anyway - once again:-
Written in the first person, Escape Company. begins with two men bound together by the same experience. With both of their wives in prison, they are fired with the same idea—how to get their ladies out.
The idea becomes an obsession, with meticulous planning involving prison routines, deadlocks, and security cameras, not to mention razor wire and some very unfriendly dogs.
Our two heroes spring their wives successfully and the idea occurs to them to form a limited company—limited to certain prisoners who merit release. So Escape Company. is born, a dedicated team of lawbreakers whose services are provided to inmates with large amounts of cash.
There are rules of course. Terrorists, sex offenders, and psychos can stay where they are, but anybody else? Well, each case is decided on its own merits.
Could such a scenario possibly work? Of course not…oh, but there was that breakout from Parkhurst not so long ago.
Wasn’t there some incident at Barlinnie? Then, if you remember, there was all that hoohah at the Scrubs…. No, it couldn’t possibly work. Escape Company is pure fiction…isn’t it?
In all my years here it has not really worked since Amazon moved all self-promotion threads to its "Meet The Authors" forum. It used to be you could not find a good thread to promote on and one ran the risk of being roasted on the various threads from people "asking" for book recommendations. Apparently, they don't like authors promoting their own books. Others are so hostile and stupidly managed that it's not worth the effort. Even on the MTA forum you will find some people aggressively competing with each other, in which case it's not worth promoting on it either. I have not bothered in a good long time, which tells you how I feel about the forums I have approached. In any case, Amazon has consistently failed to sell my books and it may be necessary for me to pull out as it is a waste of my valuable time to promote anything having to do with Amazon. So many authors are deserting the site that it's tempting to go with them.
I check out how everyone's books are doing too. I call it my amazon stalking. : ) It also helps me keep track of everyone's screen names better. Not everyone is as gracious as you and I to write under our writer names. : )
I'd say no! Everyone on here is in it for the same thing, to SELL books, not buy them. I think if you can build a few friends you might interest a couple of people in your work, and if they tell their friends etc ... it might be worth trying. In general though, it doesn't seem likely. Case is point is my thread a few rows down with a link to the first couple of hundred words of my new novel on my blog. It's not even a chapter, it's like a single page. And no one has read it. Once the book is life I'll probably post a link on a thread here just for the sake of it but I'm not expecting much, and that's to be expected, really.
Chris...the trouble with getting writers to read samples is how little time we have! I just today sat down to read stuff from my crit buddies. One piece I've had for two weeks and a longer work I've had for a month.
I've been waiting a month to hear back from two friends on something of mine they've had for a month.
And then...if I pulled up your sample and read it and gave feedback I'd feel obliged to do that for everyone who posted a link...and you can see I barely keep on top of stuff for people I'm more committed to...(But that sense of obligation is my problem and also the reason I've racked up so many darned posts here.)
